Stayed the last leg of our 10 day holiday in Bali at the Hard Rock and enjoyed it. The staff were nice and friendly sometimes to the point of being over friendly but nevertheless, still nicer than being ignored by hotel staff. We arrived early (about 11am) and was hoping that the hotel would allow us to leave our bags there and then we would check in at normal time (2pm) but they allowed us to check into our room as soon as we got there which was really nice of them. They also asked if this was our first time at the Hard Rock to which we said yes so they offered us an upgrade to the Deluxe room facing the garden.
Our bed was comfy and the room very clean. One thing I did notice immediately was the smell in the room. They must have some type of air freshener coming thru their air conditioner, it was an artificial lemonish smell which was quite strong & not very nice. I got used to it after a few hrs and didn’t notice it again until I went out and then came back in. They also have this yucky artificial smell in their elevators too which was quite sickening. One thing we found odd in the room was there was a double doors facing the outside garden area but to get out of the doors you had to literally climb over this day bed. It could not be moved away for easy access to the door as it was fixed . Silly idea really.
Really, they are the only faults I can mention about the hotel. Room was cleaned well each day.
Breakfast was excellent and I was over the cheap dirty Balinese meals, so I was so relaxed eating the Hard Rocks food knowing that it wasn’t made out the back on a crappy little burner with flies and dirt & maybe the odd rodent running around near the cook and unhygienic utensils being used (well hopefully not). The arrange of food was good so would give it 10 out 10 plus the restaurant is really nice and comfortable to sit in. We actually had dinner there also that night as for $12.50 AUD you could have a buffet at their restaurant. It was beautiful. The night we went it was a Balinese feast with a suckling pig (poor little piggy). The food was to die for as was all the desserts they had on offer. Great value for money especially in a place so expensive, in Balinese terms, as the Hard Rock.
The pool is good as everyone knows and as check out is at 12.00pm ,on our last day there we asked if we could leave our suitcases there till approx. 7.30pm as our flight wasn’t leaving till 11.30pm so we didn’t know what to do to kill the day with no place of accommodation. The Hard Rock agreed with no hesitation and then mentioned that we still would be able to use their facilities for the day if we would like to so we both settled down by the pool with a book and stayed there till about 6.00pm then had a shower in the change room. That was so good of them and much appreciated as we didn’t want to have to walk around Kuta all day, getting hot and not having anywhere to cool down or wash prior to going to the airport.
In summary, I thought the Hard Rock was very good and very nice but I do think if we go back we might try somewhere else which costs the same just to see something different and also as even in the room facing the garden area, at night I could still hear the music pumping away so being of the older generation I would prefer peace and quiet at night when going to bed rather than music every night.
