“A great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

This was our third stay at the Mercure Kuta.
We normally shun prepaid transfers, always preferring to make our own way to our accommodation, having had horrendous experiences in the past. The package we had this time, however, included transfers. We were met promptly and whisked off to the Mercure.
We didn't check in until well after 11:30 PM but we were greeted warmly by the young man at reception. His English was excellent and he clearly went through everything that our package included. We were given exactly the room we had asked for.
The room, although small, was spotlessly clean. It is the perfect size for a couple. We actually prefer it that way. (It means less ankle biters hogging the pool and making noises.) We were very impressed with the thoughtful addition of a four plug international adaptor. Every hotel should have this. The wall mounted LCD TV was plenty big enough for the room. The air conditioning, which is so hard to get right in the tropics, was excellent.
The bathroom even had a view from the tub. There was also lots of room on the vanity to put toiletries. Although the water pressure in the shower could have been better, the bathroom itself, like the room, was meticulously clean.
We never usually eat in house when we visit Bali, much prefering to eat at local restaurants. This time, however, our package included breakfast. This was surprisingly good. There was a large Asian selection as well as a small selection of cereals, eggs to order and an omelet and pancake station. The service was excellent. Coffee and tea was always topped up and used plates taken away quickly.
The rooftop pool has the best view in town, although like the rooms, will need refurbishment soon in order to keep up the high standard. Level 4 pool level perfect for Kuta sunsets.
We started taking names at the start, of staff members who excelled in the performance of their duties. We gave up after a while though, as it quickly became apparent that the whole staff, from the guy who picked us up, the reception staff, the wait staff at the restaurant, to the blokes who cleaned the rooms so well every day, were top class.
The location can not be beaten. It as a short walk to Matahari supermarket, where you can pick up everything from tonic water to Tim Tam biscuits. The restaurants and shops in Poppies Lane 1 and 2 are just around the corner. The surf beach is just across the street. Taxis are easy to flag down just outside the hotel if you feel the need to explore further.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a good hotel, in a great location for a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: We stayed in an ocean view room, but if you need a cheaper alternative, the rooms on the ground floo...

We chose this hotel because it's literally over the road to the beach and it has a surf school in the building. It's perfect if this is your aim for your holiday! The hotel itself was actually very lovely especially the infinity pool overlooking the beach. There are big fluffy pool towels available and a pool bar which had really good lime juice. The breakfast offers a lot and the fresh omlette was delicious. Tea of the other hand was some murkey grey water but we can't have it all! The room was nice, a good size and comfy bed - exactly what is needed for a weekend break. Kuta itself is not as nice as some of the places out of town but we were easily able to get a taxi from reception. That said traffic crawls at walking pace here so be prepared for a long ride. Overall a perfect place to stay for a learning to surf weekend.

On arrival no help with our luggage. Booked in then told our room was not ready (no problem went for a walk), on returning had to book in again, little bit of disorder here. Desk staffs were friendly but missing a little welcoming.
The location of the Mercure hotel couldn’t be better, well-located, not far from anything. 30 min from airport, 50 to 100,000rp by cab/driver.
Close by: Need a day trip. Just walk across the road plenty of drivers, full day should be about 600,000rp. Pony & cart ride to the left of hotel, we got around the block for 100,000rp. Across the road the beach is excellent, no deckchairs just plastic seats, that are free if you buy a drink. Just to the right of Mercure hotel there’s a group of cafe’s (live fish, crab, prawns, etc) prices we found were very good. Pizza Hut left of Mercure hotel. There are restaurants everywhere; the ones we dined at were all excellent, all just a short walk. No real set price for drinks. Just remember there’s a tax added on to your meals, this tax can range from 10 to 20+%, (the tax is but on just about everything you buy). The % seems to be at the discretion of who ever you are buy off of.
Our 2nd floor room over looked the central garden & fish pond, which was nice to the eyes. While the room is very basic and dated. A good size safe in cupboard. Chamber staff was friendly and did an all right job.
The roof top pool was good & the view was splendid, spot on. You get a really excellent view of the sunset from here (much better than the Hard Rock Hotel). We found that “one job at a time” for waiter/servers staff is the limit, lot patience’s and all will work out. With luck. The pool needs a little bit more than just filtering the water, a really decent cleansing as the pool deck has fungus or something growing on it. There is a Spa on the 4 floor too, (go up the road, cheaper & better).
Buffet breakfast on floor 4 (roof top) is tremendous, All breakfast choices clearly signed & catered for everyone. The restaurant staffs were wonderful & nothing was a problem. A little nitpick.... There is a bar on the ground floor, “buy one cocktail get one free” 99,000rp, good price drank quite a few there. But on the day before we all are to leave we find out that there was also a “buy one get one free beer” as well for a 1/3 of the price. As we are beer drinker I/we found this annoying. The staff really need to be educated a little better on what this hotel has to offer. For one of the major players in this area, this hotel has a few short comings.
We would stay at this Hotel again because, room price was reasonable, location outstanding & breakfast was first-rate.

Friendly smiles but underneath the surface things are believed to be somewhat different.
Our son got a severe electrical shock from exposed live wires in the middle of the main lobby floor. The wires originated from a removed light table and were simply cut at the level of the floor.
If such thing can happen where there's a potential risk of life, what else not immediately visible is to be worried about?
After the incident, not even an apology was received.
We will never ever come back to this "tourist" 4-star hotel, which is comparable with a 1-star business hotel.
Use our experiece as you like when planning a trip to Bali!

Everytime I checked in I would ask for a room with view to the sea. Despite of the governor had built a WALL so you can't see the sea as you walk along the road in Kuta beach, a room upstairs in Mercure would heal your anger... They have a heavenly buffet breakfast, a fat-koi fish pond, amazing bronze God statue, and the gardener always spread rose petals on the pond with M sign, very very very VERY awesome.. miss it to come back again!

Room Tip: ask for a view to the sea, maybe a bit pricy, but you would love it like you wake up in heaven every...

This is a very nice hotel in front of Bali's most popular beach, Kuta. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated.
It is also conveniently located near shopping areas and restaurants. Circle K, Hard Rock and Starbucks are just a stone's throw away. Odyssey's Surfing School is headquartered in the same building. They also have a roof deck infinity pool which my daughter really loved.

Room Tip: Free wifi is only in the lobby so choose a room on the second floor with balcony and you can have wi...
