“Wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

This is a new, clean and very comfortable hotel. We were satisfied with all of the amenities and the good breakfasts, but the most impressive aspect of the hotel was the staff. They were extremely capable, most welcoming, gracious and helpful. I acknowledge that the standards of service in Bali are very high. Even so, these wonderful staff members provided extraordinary service. Every day, we looked forward to our interactions with each and every one of them. We were most impressed.

We are staying at the Sun Island hotel, Kuta as I write this review and to put it simply it's not worth the price, especially in Bali.. The hotel is very new and clean but everything else needs work.. For starters the place is extremely noisy! We are staying In a hotel room located at the front of the hotel and you hear everything!! We are a young couple and quite use to noise and to be honest I thought I could sleep through anything! However this was ridiculous, the bar down stair pumps music until VERY late (last night 4am) and it honestly feels like there is a speaker in your room!!!! Admittedly we are in a room above the bar, but for $100 AUD a night you would expect the room to be alittle sound proof! When we asked if we could move to something less noisy maybe facing the pool, they said sure.. For an extra $30USD a night.. No thank you! Food-wise the hotel doesn't fair much better. The food is expensive and very average. We have ordered room service on two occasions and not really enjoyed either. The first was ok, a steak sandwich (which couldn't be eaten because it came smothered with cheese and my partner is allergic to dairy - on the menu nothing was mentioned about cheese) and a club sandwich- which was "ok"... The second room service I ordered a pizza and the first one came up uncooked (cheese just melted but everything else was raw). I wouldn't normally but I had to send it back because it was uneatable. The staff (what they could understand) were very good about it and brought me up a replacement within 10mins (fast kitchen) however this one wasn't cooked either!!!! Prob worse to be honest haha.. I couldnt bring myself to tell her so I didn't call back, instead the untouched pizza is sitting outside the door waiting for binning.

I'm not usually one to complain at all but I have used trip advisor so many time to book my holidays and based on ppls reviews I usually find a gem! So I wanted to post and let ppl know what this place is all about.. Dnt stay in room 229 or ANY on the front and DONT order pizza haha.. I hope this helps!

The room are clean, new, wide enough for another extra bed. The location is very convenience, close to the airport n to the center of Kuta, 5 minutes walk to he beach.

The best value is the kind and helpful staff, nothing beats the hospitality .....

Room Tip: Choose the deluxe room with pool access for better relaxing trip.

From the moment me & hubby walked in the hotel, we were greeted warmly by hotel staff. The welcome cold fruity drink & frangipani-scented cold towel served by the recep was the best welcome at a hotel we ever had. The hospitality and warmth continued throughout our stay; from the smiling security guards to the reception staff who never fails to greet you every time you take the lift up.

We took the Deluxe Pool View room: do request for a room at the back, not on the street side as it's much quieter. The rooms were impressive; done up in modern style but accented with distinctive Balinese elements. All amenities are provided, even beach slippers, bath robes and hair dryer. Our Queen bed is really comfy. Even when we accidentally stained the bedsheets, the staff changed them the next day. Toiletries were topped up every day.

What we also loved about this hotel is the location; surrounded by shops, restaurants, cafes, convenience stores and at least a few spas with super cheap massages. Discovery Shopping Mall is less than 5 mins walk away and getting to the main shopping strip like Matahari is about 12-15 mins. There is also a newly opened mall called Beachwalk along Jln Pantai Kuta near Harris Resort Kuta. If you want to go to the beach, you have to cut through Discovery Mall though.

Only cons of this hotel: breakfast was ok but I thought it could expand more on it's variety. If you want to use Internet in you room, you gotta bring a laptop as the only connection available was by LAN cable. We had to go down to the lobby with our iPads to use the free wifi.

But these are minor quibbles. What really made it memorable for me was the surprise birthday cake the staff gave. We didn't ask for it but the staff took the initiative & gave me this wonderful birthday cake surprise!

I highly recommend Sun Island Hotel Kuta. Not only because it's a new beautiful hotel in a great location but the hotel staff really went the extra mile and gave me & my husband a wonderful stay experience. At less than half the price of staying at Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel, I thought Sun Island Hotel is really great value for money. Do try it next time you're in Bali.

Amazing people, friendly efficient and now feel like I have a family in Bali. Will be back again to say hello for sure. I had my Birthday with my family and could not say one bad word about this hotel. I had read some of the reviews before staying here and cannot understand the negative reviews from some people. The staff at this hotel have the biggest warmest welcoming smiles I have ever come across ever. To name a few of the staff names that I can remember are Ayu, Eka, Nokia, Budi,Gio, Johanes and Yudi and Surwitra front desk also so accommodating and welcoming would do whatever you asked. Nothing was every any trouble. My daughter and friend organised with them flowers and birthday cake for me as a surprise and I had such a lovely time. Apologies to all staff members who's name I could not remember but all staff were fantastic luv you all and will be back soon to say hello xxx

Room Tip: We had a room close to reception and the road so suggest strongly to request a room towards the back...

What a great hotel. From the moment that we rocked up to the moment that we left all the staff remembered who we were and always had a very warm welcoming everytime they see you.
The rooms have a very decent size for a htoel room, the pool is the main feature in the hotel and it is a great place to laze around and have a couple of wonderful cocktails.

Room Tip: they do not have a fitness centre or a spa in the hotel.

We stayed at the Sun Island Kuta for four nights in end Mar/early Apr and really liked the hotel. it's very new and just meters away from the Discovery mall that houses Sogo and other fun stores, from Dorothy Perkins and M&S to Guess. Also, beachwear brands like Billabong & Quiksilver. The Discovery Plaza strip also features a great line-up of cafes and restaurants. Sun Island is one of the smaller ones on the street, but is stylish, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The daily breakfast was decent and you can get omelettes freshly made to go with your bacon. We also liked that the hotel allows you to take your pool towels to the beach - even if it's one that's a distance away. On our arrival, the staff had left two swans made of towels on the bed and strewn it with rose petals for the "honeymoon couple" - the category we always tick ;)Despite not having mentioned that my boyfriend's birthday was during our stay, they had realized this (from his passport) and snuck into our room with a birthday cake, complete with candles - that was a nice personal touch :)The strip behind the hotel makes for a very romantic walk at night, as it's by the beach and passes all the other hotel gardens which are lamp /lantern-lit once it's dark. Sitting on the beach at dusk and watching the planes take off in the distance from Ngurah Rai airport is quite an experience - so that's a must-do :) The famous Kuta Beach where you can learn to surf is a 20-minute walk away from the hotel. The surrounding area is also full of restaurants & excellent spas -one to try is Febri's, great packages at very good prices. For families with kids, the Waterbom park is just across the road from the hotel and Discovery Mall. Sun Island Kuta (which by the way, features a touch screen lift;) is definitely a cool little hotel - just don't pick a poolside room as it can get noisy. Ours was facing the back garden and it was great. We'll be back :)

Room Tip: You'll find lots of souvenirs at Discovery Mall, as well as in the little bazaar on the street o...
