“Best meal in Bali”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

Where to start?

I was meeting my girlfriend in Bali for two weeks, having been travelling for 2 months previously, it being her birthday at the end of her stay with me we decided a nice meal was in order. We initially looked to Jimbaran beach itself, but decided there were a few too many negative reviews so instead gambled on Cuca, at the time a relativly new and un-established restaurant.

We went to Jimbaran beach before and had a drink, immediately i was glad of my choice not to eat there. The food was vastly over priced and un-extraordinary, a nice setting to have a drink and watch the sunset however. It was then a short taxi to Cuca.

Arriving at Cuca we were greeted like Royalty, shown from our taxi and into the restaurant. It was still in its early days at this point and not being a "big night" it was very quiet. Because of this we were able to sit at the raised bar by the grill. As soon as we were seated Kevin came across and greeted us personally, recommended cocktails (Tokyo Mojhito is INCREDIBLE) before talking us through the menu personally. My girlfriends cocktail was taking a little while to
arrive due to some machine being broken so he brought us another cocktail on the house to keep her going.

The food is tapas style, inventive, locally sourced and expertly prepared. The portions arent huge, but they are sharable if you buy 4 or 5 and for the quality i think they are competitively priced. For me the standout dish was a salad with caramalized carrot and roast strawberry, not something I would order normally but upon Kevins recommendation we ordered it. To this day one of the most unusual, yet delicious dishes i have ever sampled.

As mentioned before it was my girlfriends birthday and the effort they made in respect to that is what took the experience from a lovely meal out, and turned it into the benchmark by which all other meals are judged - so far it remains unbeaten.

I just want to say, Kevin, if you are reading this, thankyou.
She still has the card!

“WOW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

Great food, cool place, friendly staff... you will love it when you are open to experience a new style of food. All the dishes are served in tapas style portions, so you need to order three or more from the menu. Dishes are placed in the middle of the table to share, it is fun and communicative. Leave some space for the excellent desserts.

“A twist to every bite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

I've never had tapas before so I dont know what to expect. Food seemed rather expensive but we were there on friends' recommendation and we wanted to try it. Overall it was a pleasant and tasty experience... Every bite is unexpected, a twist that gets you going more and more :) if not for my baby crying and fussing it would have been a perfect evening. Too bad I had to leave early.. Will come again next time

“Equivalent to Michelin Star Restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Christmas day evening dinner at Cuca, was very memorable, we had the option of sitting in the restaurant or by the kitchen where you can see it all happening. We opted for the latter, from the moment we arrived it was perfect... very friendly staff and owners, Kevin is the head chef, and the owner with his wife Virginia, who is a beautiful person who makes you feel very welcome.
Every morsel was totally delicious, from the lovely starter to the most amazing fish dish i have ever eaten, followed by delicious soup, main course and desert if you can manage to eat it, but eat it you must as its too good not to.
Cuca is a restaurant that everyone should have the pleasure of experiencing, believe me you will return. Keep up the good work Kevin. Very Happy New Year to you both, and thanks for making our Christmas day meal so memorable.
