I have debated whether to post this review or not as I had a genuine issue but couldn't fault the place in many ways.
I have recently returned from a trip to Singapore, Lombok and Bali and stayed at Pat Mase. We were booked to stay there for six nights but left after three.
We arrived and were told that we would be staying in a three bedroom villa which was great as there were just the two of us. We had our own small pool, access to a larger pool, we had our own kitchen, breakfast was included and two members of staff come to the kitchen to prepare it for you, there was a large outdoor lounge/dining room, the staff were excellent and all of this for $140 per night.
So what was the downside? Well when I go to countries like this (including a previous trip to Bali) I hardly ever get bitten by mosquitos. We stayed in Lombok for a week prior and only two bites. However at Pat Mase I stayed outside watching tv for twenty miutes and was bitten. I was bitten in the room that night too. At breakfast at 8.45am outside I was bitten and indeed killed three more mosquitos.
In total I had 36 bites in 24 hours despite having taken Thiamin, wore repellent, closed the windows, aircon on low, mosquito coils in the room etc.
Now I know you might say what do you expect in a tropical country but I have stayed in £2 per night backpackers hostels to five star resorts but have never experienced this.
We moved just up the road to the Ritz Carlton (at a much higher price!) and despite them having extensive gardens they contained the mosquitos.
Pat Mase admitted that they do have this problem and fully understoon why we were leaving. The do fogging two or three times per week but still it didn't work.
A shame because other than that it was good.
