“We just keep going back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

We just love this resort. Not only is it beautiful and spacious, the people who look after us have become our friends. If I could add a tip, it would be,----- interact and be friendly to those looking after you. They are all lovely people, and try so hard to please.

We initially were booked into a club room but on check in we were offered to upgrade to a private villa for an extra $200 USD per night which we took. The villa was stunning with the largest bathroom I have ever seen. It was very private and beautifully appointed. If you do get a villa be sure to keep the bedroom doors shut as we had monkeys raid our room and steal the complimentary nuts!

We are glad that we didn't stay in the club room as that was quite a disappointment. The club lounge is dated and looks a bit like a Thai airways lounge from the 90's with dirty table cloths and overly ornate furniture. The food at the club lounge was also mediocre. Often on arrival most of the food had run out and was not replaced. One dinner all that was left was some 'scallop' risotto (strangely absent of scallop) and bread rolls (with no butter).

Service was overall friendly but inconsistent and impersonal. Of all the resorts we stayed at in Bali the staff here had the poorest understanding of English.

Food - the food at this resort is stuck in time warp. No self respecting 5 star resort should serve supermarket style sliced white bread at breakfast as the only option. When we stayed at the Uma by Como in Ubud they had the most delicious sourdough bread and wholegrain, so it's not like it can't be made in Bali. My other pet hate, sundried tomatoes, they should've been banished from menus a decade ago.

On the plus side the ocean beach pool was the most stunning pool I have ever seen. You have to arrive before 10am everyday otherwise the sun beds are all taken but it is well worth it. The staff at the ocean beach pool were wonderful, very friendly and continually offered you water, cool towels and would even take photos for you. Overall this is the highlight of the resort.

Would I recommend staying here? Probably, but not for long. If you do stay I would just pay for the cheapest room and then spend my days at the ocean beach pool and use the money you save to offset the exorbitant food and beverage prices and a couple of taxis into town to get a decent meal.

Room Tip: Club room is not worth the money. Save the money, get a cheaper room. If you can stretch the pool vi...

Dear ‘asternak’,

Thank you very much for your feedback after staying at The Villas at AYANA.

I am pleased that you found the resort’s location beautiful and enjoyed the pools and your Villa.

I appreciate your feedback on the areas where we did not meet your expectations and where we can improve. I will share your comments with the Culinary team for our improvement, and I would like to inform you that we have just appointed a very experienced Executive Chef, Patrick Callarec, who is reviewing the entire culinary operations across the resort. Your feedback is very welcome and appreciated and I hope we can welcome you back in the future, to experience the improvements and changes that are currently being implemented by Chef Patrick.

All permanent members of our team are required to have basic English knowledge. I apologize for the communication issues you experienced with our staff and I will review the language training programs we have in place to ensure that all staff have the language skills to communicate with and take care of our guests to the high standards on which we pride ourselves.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback.

Best regards,

Clive Edwards

Stayed in a villa nothing was too much trouble. If you are thinking about staying here this is the ideal place. Amazing villa and great inclusions, especially having a butler at our beck & call. We will be back to experience Ayana on our next trip to Bali.

Room Tip: Villa is worth the $$

We love the Ayana! Beautiful grounds, stunning views, love the Rock Bar (even the wait in the setting sun). Service is impeccable and breakfast is the best in the world. The pool areas are magnificent and the gardens have huge space to sit and relax. Each room is great too. Stay for 2 days in luxury and relax!

Went here with husband for our second honeymoon. Almost everything was perfect. Every praise that you've read online is true. Special thanks to the lovely jegeg who kindly took our photos on the rock bar pool.. The photos are excellent, even our friends commented that they're so good, like taken by a pro!

One minor minus is guests must pay 75ribu/hour for wi-fi access- expensive!! But this won't deter us from staying here again. We'll probably just bring a portable wi-fi hotspot.

Matur suksma, Ayana :)

I stayed 8 nights in a sea view villa at Ayana in July 2014 and although the resort is much bigger than what I expected, one does not feel too crowded.
The Kubu beach is a beautiful place with a great service - too bad was it impossible to swim due to dangerous currents.
The staff was extremely friendly and people remember you even though there must be like 500 rooms...
The only negatives are the price of the spa (ridiculous in my opinion) and the Rock Bar (totally overrated).
Food was very good, with special emphasis on the Sea Market restaurant, nice view and excellent fish.
Overall a very good experience.

Our villa was really large and beautiful. If all you wanted to do was hang out in the villa, this would be the place for you. Room was gorgeous, view was gorgeous, room service was fast and I slept better in that bed for 2 nights than I have for the past 2 years.

Here are some of the things I noticed. You need to decide if these matter to you.

The resort is massive. You can't walk around comfortably. You require a buggy - and thankfully, the buggy service is quick. You call, and they're there to collect you in just a few minutes.

However, much of the resort is like a big conference resort or golf style resort. The F&B outlets are honestly, only ok for the prices. The rock bar is really just hype. Donny bother. The pool in the pool villa is generously described as a plunge pool. And while we didn't have children with us, the villa was on a cliff edge and totally unsuitable for children, so be warned.

All in all, despite this place being fairly nice and the staff trying hard, we checked out a day early and went to the four seasons. I enjoyed Ayala while we were there, but would not go back, all things considered.
