“O.K.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

We dined at this Restaurant on the Weekend, while the staff were pleasant I also found it extremely over priced, $80 Australian for 2 with 2 beers. Some of the fish were not fresh
{eyes cloudy} so I went for calamari to be safe. My meal was nice, not awesome as were most of our eats in Bali. Prob wouldnt go back. Would def go to the beach but eat corn off the stall holders.

“Scrumptious Dinner - Amazing setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

For all the people who may say anything negative or fault this restaurant simply shouldnt travel to Bali. its fresh seafodd, how much more fresh do you want to eat? Food is simply THE BEST seafood my hubby and I have had. And one the beach watching sunset?? Hello... What more could you ask for?
The service here is tip-top and they will put up and umbrella for that occasional spit off rain.. Great nite and great memories here.
Thanks Seaside - wonderful restaurant.

“The worst part of taking a tour”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

We were brought to this restaurant as part of a half-day tour around Uluwatu and it was terrible. The only good part is the venue....it is rather nice being on the beach with the sounds of the waves, the moon and stars adding to the lighting. The service although a bit rushed was not really that bad. However, they keep you confused by the ordering methods (take your table then need to go to the front to choose seafood which has various pricing methods); and then the seafood we chose was very poorly cooked - overcooked with an overpowering sticky sauce (not nicely hot or anything just sort of sticky and sweetish); the vegetable was cold and as was the rice. We felt ripped off when the bill came to over $100 - an amazing price for Bali. We had excellent dinners elsewhere for half the cost. If you do take a tour that includes a dinner on the Jimbaran beach try to negotiate going elsewhere. I have not been to other similar places along that strip (would never go to that area again) but they all seemed about the same.

“Do not eat here - New Matahari Cafe”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012

We ate here a couple of nights ago. It was our last night in Bali and this restaurant pretty much spoilt that. One thing was our fault (I say 'our' but I really mean my husband! :) ) - he thought the huge prawns (I don't know the exact name of them) were 30,000 per kilo and so ordered them. They were however 300,000!! So that was a shock when we got the bill. We ordered white fish, which was absolutely disgusting, I can't tell you how bad, it actually tasted like sewage (or how I imagine sewage would taste!!) I couldn't eat it. My husband didn't like it either but ate it as he didn't want to waste it. The snapper was ok, but tasted a bit funny in places and also had a lot of bones (but maybe whole snapper does, I'm not a fish expert). All the restaurants in this area offer you discounts, but this one did not. The beer and the cocktails were more expensive than at other restaurants we had been to/looked at. I'm not sure whether the fish was more expensive or not, but as I say, no discount was offered. When we came to pay the bill and saw how much it was, we complained, saying the white fish was disgusting and that everyone else offers a discount but they had not offered one. We did eventually get a 10% discount, but it was still a huge bill. We live in Perth, WA, which is extremely expensive and we probably would not have been charged as much as we were here. We had 600g of the huge prawns (which was one prawn each), 1.4kg of snapper (on reflection I don't think we actually got as much as that) and 900g of white fish, one large beer and one small beer and it was AU$76.

“Shut down & put the owner behind bar for Bali sake”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

Matahari Cafe, how can Bali government let it operate for so long? For all you know, the friendly Bali if ever cursed and punished by mother nature, 90% ethic spoiled because of this restaurant. Bloody hell the owner bribing the poor income taxi drivers to lure the pray to this famous Jimbaran location just to get rip off with 300% over priced, disgusting, poisonous seafood, with week old smell and taste. A simple dish of 1kg prawn + 1.5kg fish + 600g squid cost us US$120. Worst than 5 star dinner in any Nusa Dua 7 star hotel! Not to mention the poor service and disgusting kitchen, like never being cleaned. The taste of soggy sea food feels like 1 week in chemical preservation and taste like plastic. Worst, I had diarrhea the next day. Wasn't this illegal and someone should be punished by law? So as the old and overcooked vegetable, looks worst than cow food. If you ever come to Bali, do not ask for driver recommendation, do not come to Matahari Cafe in Jimbaran, report to police or local government if you paid over priced food, felt cheated, or worst, ate too much chemical and get food poisoning.
