“Still worth a short visit..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

As stated in a few reviews, it's no Taronga, but why would you expect it to be.. its in the middle of Bali for starters, on about 1/1,000,000th the budget Taronga have.

I've been to Zoos all around the world, and its not the worst, I took my daughter and it was perfect for her, she wouldn't have lasted the full day at the Safari Park, which, is excellent. This Zoo you can be in and out in under 2hours.

I've heard complaints on the $24 entry, come on.. get over it, how do you expect a Zoo to run, they probably get no funding from the Indonesian Government either.

The Good:
There are a few well set up exhibits, the Siamang's in particular, otters, Lions.
It's easy to get around on the footpaths and there is a little bit of shade around.
You can get pretty close to the animals too, which makes for good photo opps.
They are about to renovate the Sunbears too which is a start.
Plenty of Monkey species and Tigers.
The animals all looked healthy.

The Bad:
The Orangutan enclosure whilst big enough, looks boring as anything.. poor guy must go insane. Give him something to climb on!
Some are just WAY too small, the big birds in particular, the White Bellied Sea Eagle would be lucky to stretch his wings out..
The Croc enclosure is barely big enough for 1 of them to swim, let alone 2 in there, no wonder they are so fat.

Anyways, was ok, next time will go back to the Safari Park though.

“Too many unhappy caged animals”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

I heard some good reports about the Zoo but after going to the Safari & Marine Park there is no comparison . The Safari park is so animal friendly and the animals are treated better than humans .But the Zoo was disappointing with too many crocodile exhibits, When photos are done with animals the poor animals are out of it & tranquilized to the eyeballs just so these money hungry people can make money having your photo taken . Not recommended .

“Bali Zoo...Excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

We spent a great day here, it isn't your Taronga park Zoo, but terrific just the same. we arranged transfers there and back including admission into the zoo along with a smorgasbord lunch for $70Aud for the both of us. You can feed the elephants, an experience I thoroughly enjoyed, there is a bird show which was pretty amazing, and I even had my photo taken with a wee baby lion cub, all included in the price. Well worth the visit:)

Night at the zoo Was an amazing night! Feeding the elephants was a highlight. Buffet was delicious while watching a traditional fire dance. Overall an amazing night for couples singles or family's!

“fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Bali zoo is really fun! My daughter loved the petting zoo which consisted of deer and rabbits that you buy carrots for (20,000IRP, about $2 AU). The animals had clean enclosures and the grounds were lovely and shadey. The bears seemed to have some good enrichment activities being very busy getting food from their big bamboo tubes. The bird show was great! It was really funny because some of the birds were taking the oppurtunity to have a bit of an extra fly about! We bought a huge watermelon for 40,000IDR that a staff member cut up for us to feed to an elephant which was fun for me and the kids! The queuing up for photos with the bearcat didn't look like a very enjoyable experience. We bought our tickets at the entrance without any package deal and I found the price reasonable.
