“Very Ordinary forced stay here..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

I stayed two nights here recently due to a booking error by Agoda and Heliconia Villas.
Supposedly Heliconia had double booked a Villa for two nights, and I was the unlucky person forced to another place to stay for 2 of my planned 6 nights in Seminyak.
I was a little worried when being dropped off by the drivers, as this place is in an area that can best be described as slightly seedy.
The whole area is a little run down, and in the middle of houses and businesses that have seen better days.
Not the ideal location for a start.
I found this out when trying to catch a Taxi, as not many seem to frequent the area.
The Villas themselves, although spacious are quite run-down, and lacking in maintenance. Cleanliness was average.
The food served at breakfast was also very ordinary- I only ate some of the breakfast on my first morning.
On the plus side, I found the staff very friendly and helpful, it's not their fault that the management here seems to be lacking- Use some of those staff and spruce up/ repair the place!
I was glad to move on from here, and doubt I would ever go back in it's current condition

In November 2012 my partner and I spent 10 day holidaying in Bali, and stayed at some amazing accommodation.

On the final night, we searched online and booked to stay at Athena Garden Villa. Bad move.

Not only was the Villa in a seedy location in the middle of nowhere, it was nothing like what is pictured on the website.

Our Villa was down the very rear of the complex next to a vacant block, and looked like it had very poor upkeep. The place was run down and looked as though it hadn't had a proper renovation or makeover in a very long time. The advertised 'spa' was empty and looked like it hadn't had water in it for some time. The pool was dirty. The locks on the doors didn't work properly, and at one point we were actually locked out of our room and had to get reception to come and change the locks so we could get back in. The fruit in the fruitbowl had ants and insects all over it. The water in the watercooler was warm (might seem trivial but in Bali climate cold water is a necessity).

When we returned from some shopping on the afternoon we checked in, we were greeted with the site of one of the locals standing in an alleyway next to the entrance of the villa with his genitals exposed and relieving himself. And no, he wasn't urinating... Not something the Villa can really control but says something for the area it is located in.

We got back to our rooms and went to freshen up only to find several lizards in our bedroom. Furthermore, the shower had no water in it, and to top it off, there was a lizard about the size of a football on the wall in the shower.

We lasted a total of 5 hours at the Garden Villa (4 of them were spent shopping) before we had enough. We demanded our money back and were told that since we had already occupied the room for 5 hours (even though half the complex was vacant), that we were only entitled to a 50% refund.

The only positive for Athena Garden Villa was that the staff were friendly.

This is the first accommodation I have ever stayed at where I actually packed my bags and left without staying one night. We ended up returning to Serene Villas in Seminyak which took us on at short notice, and for the exact same price, we were treated to 5 star hospitality.

Anyone who stays at Athena Garden Villa would be making a HUGE mistake. I have stayed in hostels all over the world that had better facilities than this place. And if for whatever reason you actually enjoy the experience - try staying somewhere else in Bali that has a comparable price and 5 star service/facilities, and you will realise what you are missing out on.

We have our office yearly gathering at villa athena. We rented 3 villas for amazing low price. The location although not beach side but very nice. The rooms are clean. We have our fun there. Will definitely recommend for small gathering n maybe small birthday party or family gateway. We didn't try the food. The staff r friendly.

Fantastic Villa!! Beautiful gardens and outdoor shower / bath, perfect pool, lovely staff who could not do enough for you, great value for money! Thanks to the staff who made the stay so fantastic. They provide free cool drinks in the fridge, complimentary massage and afternoon tea, fresh fruit, cooked breakfast each morning and a free taxi / bus shuttle service into town twice daily! This is great as the Villa is a little way out of the town centre so it negates the distance. The service could not get any better!

We have now recommended this place to friends and family and we will not be staying anywhere else in the future, this will now be our Bali home!

Was not what it states when booking, they tried to charge us more by using their own rated of conversation and not the actual rate on the day and then advised that the online price was cash only (which is not stated at all in the payment methods listed). Internal amenities i.e. basics like toilet paper, sugar coffee you only get 1 roll of toilet paper and a few sachets of sugar and coffee, you do not get any milk you have to ask for the to top up the jug every time. They do not clean your room every day only looks like occassionaly. The massage is not great, compared to other places we have gone to and stayed at previously. The menu is extremely poor and there is no restaurant on site, I recommend to purchase your own food and cook it yourself, menu is expensive for the price as there is nothing else in the area within walkable distance - very remote. The spa - it is there but is not operational and no water in it - has no bubbles. Lots of cats in the area and did not get much sleep. Breakfast was not very good at all.

Room Tip: not value for money

For a private villa with a pool, the price was good but the pool was a little old and not super clean (but by no means dirty) and the room, while clean and well kept - just had that worn sort of feel. The bathroom was nice though. The meals were ok - not as good as at some of the higher-end places. It was a bit far away - had to take a taxi to get anywhere, could only walk up to the small convenience shop. And the faux-greco-roman statues and theme was a bit unsettling for Bali... but overall, just for a short break, its good value

Stayed our last 2 nights in Bali at Athena Villa. We were all very happy with the beautiful, cozy set up of the villa. It was such a beautiful villa and the rooms were very nice with outdoor bathtub and shower.

Though the website said there is a hot spring tub, there wasn't any hot spring water, though there was a separate tub. We had fun dipping in the little pool, too small to do any laps.

They will ask you the day before your breakfast time and preference, either american breakfast, fried rice or fried noodles. they chef comes to the villa to prepare the breakfast to freshly make omelets, or fried eggs. rice and noodles are pre made. They set up the table for us & cleaned up after us.

We had complimentary 30 mins massage & tea time. Book via www.villabalivillas.com/seminyakvillas/athena-villa-seminyak.php for better rates.

Air-cond for 2 rooms needs servicing as it broke down in the middle of night!
