“not for tourists (yet)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2011

as of November 2011, this place is not yet (at least) fun for tourist or even traveller with wacky sense of humor.

at daytime, it's a place to go if you want to buy offerings, local fruits, and mostly anything the local would buy in the most common standard, well,... even lower than that. but a good experience if you found a fun local friend or a very open minded, creative, and fun loving guide that understands what to show you there without being touristy at all

at night, it's a mishmash of local (Indonesia) kind of having a fun night out. or if you a 10 year old local kid looking for a bargain anything with your first holiday allowance. it could be fun, but not on your own.

beware of pickpockets in the crowd!
or evil-illusionist when not in the crowd...

i went there to buy Balinese music CDs and they still sell audio tapes from yesteryears
both are night time offerings

important tip (if you really really want to go there):

1. dress cheaply
2. act poor
3. bring a guide you are really comfortable with (as in good 'ol pal comfortable)
4. bring cash only, in smaller notes
5. bargain like crazy. think something crazy in EU or US, multiply by 10 crazy marks
6. buy cheap stuff that are not quality products
7. have fun
8. you actually won't get food poisoning from the crowded food-stalls, for some people it's just the matter of re-adjusting to new and potent kind of spices into their digestive system

feel free to shoot me any questions regarding this and other wacky markets in Bali, it's my other hobby

“Not much for non-locals”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2010

Dredging desparately for things to do in Denpasar, we found ourselves heading to the Kereneng night markets. Our first clue to the wisdom of this was the taxi drive cackling maniacally saying "why you go there!?". Basically, it's a pretty homogenous night market with some fairly poor knockoff clothes and a little food area in the centre. I can't speak for the food as I wasn't quite adventurous enough to give it a crack. It's certainly aimed at locals though so if you want to be immersed in local culture, this is probably a good spot to start...! Tip: if you do come here, get the driver to wait. The taxi driver dropping us off told us there were heaps of taxis around there, but it took us ages to get one.
