Description: MOMO'S - Tibetan Kitchen is an idea of a group of 2nd generation young Tibetans born and brought up in the charming hill town of Mussoorie. The restaurant derives its name "Momo's" from the "Utterly Unique and Delicious Tibetan Dumplings" which is also the unofficial national dish of TIBET. But do not be mistaken by its name as the place known for the warm dumplings also serves a large variety of Tibetan, Thai and Chinese cuisine. The prime objective of the joint has been to present the traditional TASTE OF TIBET to people and Tourists of Mussoorie in a comfortable and cool Tibetan environment. Tibetans in Mussoorie have been living in this little big town since 1960 and have made it their home in a distinct manner. The joint made its beginning on June 4, 2012 which was inaugurated by Hon. “Friendly place, excellent momos, non MSG on request, confused atmosphere,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Great Momos...

This is the first time we have had food at Momos. Once I had checked it out I thought I should try to get my wife inside with her wheelchair. Its an electric wheelchair and weighs 125Kg so lifting it over the one step into the restaurant was not an option. However a charming man from Momos immediately went upstairs to where there was building work going on. He came down with two pieces of wood and we made a temporary ramp.

Once we were in the place looked fairly clean and well organised. A beaming smile from a picture of the Dali Lama made the place feel cheerful. However the annoying television was a distraction that is out of place in a restaurant. This seems to be a fashion amongst fast food joints but is not suitable for social eating.

Our first question was can we have food completely free of MSG and the answer was yes. Now that doesn't always hold true when the food comes as in other nearby restaurants that will still give you food that has MSG in it even though you requested without.

The food came in good time and was very nice. The momos come in a traditional bamboo basket 'tiffin' box and where delicious. Excellent chilli-garlic chutney and no vinegar in it (great)! All the food we had was good quality without too much salt and oil that is so common in most of the popular joints.

I took my young son to the toilet and we surprised to see a piece of the mountainside was one side of the toilet room!!! It is upstairs which would be inconvenient for more frail older customers. Yes one wall is actually a huge rocky party of the hillside! Its a very interesting and unusual feature but it would have been better if there had not been a bad smell from toilet. I think this might have been because there were labourers in working upstairs who are not renowned for there cleanliness let alone flushing the loo!

I gave an average rating as the place could have a better atmosphere without the TV which was competing with the piped music from the Mall road. Too much noise doesn't help good social eating with family or friends.

The one thing that made this a great visit apart from the excellent food was the kindness and intelligence of the man running the restaurant that day. The care he showed with help to make a slope for my wife showed that they really care about people. This is a very buddhist trait.

“Must Visit place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Though it looks very small from outside, but food they serve is exceptionally good. By the time we reached they were about to close it because most of the things were finished.
We ordered for Chilli chicken garlic noodles and one chicken gravey dish. Both turned out yummy. I can compare this place to Yo China. This is a very small place , dont expect too good of a seating or service but once they serve you food , you wont regret visiting.

“The momos were good, the thukpa was life changing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We went here after a long day of chasing views atop the endless mountains of Mussoorie. We were both in the mood for some hot, comforting momos and were STARVING. We both ordered the veg thukpa and decided to split an order of veg momos. The momos were great, but the thukpa was LIFE CHANGING. I've never had a dish that was so complex and simple at the same time. The Tibetans are apparently magicians, taking simple, natural and down to earth ingredients and turning them into something spectacular. The flavors married so well and the end result was amazing. We ate our meal in silence. I slurped every last bit of the thukpa and considered trying to get a job in the kitchen for a day simply to learn the recipe.

The ambiance isn't much, but the food is amazing.
