Ganpati is right on the river and affords you the true Varanasi experience. I would stay here again because of the location. Make sure you get a room with river outlook. Rooms are spartan, the walls are thin, lights work for a few hours at night, water is a trickle, internet is pricy, food is average.
We were very grateful for the pick up from the train station - we would never have found it on our own.
Make sure you know how much they are charging and what is included in the bill - keep your records.

the rooms are very very simple, the walls are so thin, you can hear breathing the neihgbour in the other rooms- the staff is very boared and slow, so it seems unfriendly - the rooms with bath for 1000 rupies are too expensive, no ac, only one light, the shower out of work, no furniture, only one bed and one chair, who break down if you use it, etc. buildung looks like breaking down next time, i think the owne doesn´t want to renovate something- only to get money.

I would certainly recommend this hotel. Our room was not amazing but was certainly okay. Bathroom was good, shower was good, bed was a bit hard. Room was fairly clean. The rooftop terrace is wonderful and overal the hotel is very cosy situated around a nice courtyard.

My sister and I (aged 60 and 58) stayed at the Ganpati Guest House. We were doubtful that we had made the right choice when we had to leave our taxi, hop onto two cycle rickshaws to the lane leading down to the guesthouse, and then walk with our backpacks through the maze of alleys littered with cow poo. However, it was worth it. The Ganpati is an oasis on the banks of the Ganges. It has the best rooftop restaurant in Varanasi, and the food is excellent and inexpensive. The staff were extremely friendly. Our room, while a little small (we shared a double bed!!) had an ensuite shower and toilet. We were lucky enough to be there on the last night of Diwali, when the whole river area was alight with what appeared to be millions of lanterns. The crowds were unbelievably colourful. I would recommend going there at this time of year - to see the sunrise over the Ganges, with people washing and praying in the river, is a spiritual experience. We walked down the ghats and found an excellent silk shop. We didn't venture much onto the main street, though, which was a hive of too much frantic activity, and the traffic!!! - well, that has to be experienced.
Overall, I can say that we were blown away by the whole experience. Five nights wasn't enough to take in the colour and the culture of the city. We loved it.

Ganpati is a fairly decent guest house - simple, colourful and clean rooms (although the single rooms can be very small). Our room had a balcony with a view on Ganges which was nice. The service though leaves much room for improvement: our pre-arranged pick-up at the Mughal Sarai train station did not work (explanation: too much traffic...) and most of the staff, especially the guy who was at the reception most of the time, seemed not to be too interested and sometimes even a bit cheeky. The roof top restaurant has great food - breakfast, lunch, dinner was all delicious and the service was very friendly.

We are Ganpati Guest House - if you stay here, we are sure that you will have a good time in Varanasi. Of course the view of the beautiful river Ganges is amazing and exotic. Many people who come to Varanasi stay with us in the Ganpati Guest House. The staff are very kind and have a good spirit. We look forward to meeting you and hope beautiful time in Varanasi. The history of Ganpati Guest House: The Ganpati is located at the east end of the Mother Ganges in Varanasi, makes its presence known throughout the riverbanks not only by shining the world's oldest culture as well as oldest city. A city of light...but also by offering cutting-edge restaurants, renowned facilities, amazing view and comfortable accommodations. This 3-story Redstone pyramid was built in 1905 on the river Ganges, contains so many amenities on such an enormous scale that it's becomes practically amazing vacation. Spacious rooms surrounded by the plants, which boasts your staying, dining and entertainment. The Garden, at more than 1000 square feet, is one of Varanasi's oldest existing buildings and rarely available, offering a tranquil sitting, an array of nice music, a rack of books nearby. We want to deliver inside of the property a best atmosphere. We're trying to become a little more contemporary and appeal to all age crowds with holy feelings. We want to offer the best entertainment, dining, staying and relax without insulting the worth of your damage. That's not to say that "The city of Light" will be memorable entire the life. It is, after all, still a part of what makes the property unique, and explained that the hotel is prepared to keep the better executed elements of the riverbank-culture theme. Kind regards. ... more   less
