“An excellence of Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2010

Reached Varanasi at 2.30 AM in the morning a time odd enough to have a doubt in mind about the reception going to experience in a hotel going for the first time............when reached a smiling face over the counter eased out even the slightest doubt ! ........... received a warm welcome. The lounge of the Clarks Varanasi is decorated elegantly with a heritage touch , but must say contemporary also.
Rooms are spacious enough & much comfortable. The breakfast spread is fabulous & of international standard. We were touched when found special & separate arrangements for the Navaratri Brata ovservers.
Conference facility is excellent with a royal decorations of the halls.
specially would like to mention about the swiming pool maintained nicely & with privacy ...ideal for spending a quiet afternoon with your soul mate.
The Hotel lounge has couple of shops with a good collection of handicrafts & as well famous varanasi sarees!

Me and my friends planned to visit Varanasi and decided to stay at Clarks. I had heard about the hotel's reviews from my relatives. The good thing about the hotel was that it was very close to the city's railway station, just a 5 minute ride. The ambience was very beautiful and luxurious. We found the rooms to be very spacious and well equipped. The view of outside was amazing from the window. We used to set out to visit the places in the city in the afternoon and chill out near the swimming pool in the evening. Sometimes we went to JHV Mall which was just next to the hotel to catch a movie or grab a bite. The food in the restaurant was lavish, very delicious. The room service was prompt. We had a 3 days stay in the hotel and it turned out to be a wonderful experience.

We preferred this hotel for our family pilgrimage program at Vishwanatha temple, since this hotel is very close to this temple and Bharat Mata Mandir.
Our stay here was very comfortable and we felt it as being at home away from home.
I recommend others too to visit this hotel, if they really want to explore rich cultural heritage of Varanasi.

I had the task of finding a suitable hotel to accomadate our group of 16 for one week of conference and relaxing. From the very first communication via email, I found the management of Clarks Varanasi to be most willing to meet our groups needs and budget. It was a pleasure to do business with the Clarks.
We were very pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel, and the friendliness of the staff. Our every need was met without delay. The Clarks Varanasi offers a peaceful setting making our stay most restful and freeing our minds to focus on our conference. If we meet again in Varanasi we would definately book the Clarks.

Stayed in this hotel as it was chosen by the tour company that we were traveling with. Its located next to a small shopping mall, which has a large MacDonalds and Pizza hut if you are tired of eating curry!!
The hotel is comfortable, it has two good resturants and all of the staff are friendly and the service is good.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was a little slow and the ceiling fan worked when it felt like it, but thats India for you!! The bathroom was okay, offered a hair dryer, shaving points, shampoos etc.
Our room overlooked the main road which was relatively busy because of the shopping mall and as the indians love using their car horns it was very noisy.
Also plenty of stray dogs barking during the night.
The hotel has a resident guard on two of the gates, which keeps out the street sellers, but once you venture outside of the gates you will be bombarded with offers of tuk tuks and taxis and locals selling various items. Unfortunately, it became a little overbearing at times and I couldnt wait to get back into the confines of the hotel gates. Having said that, when we needed a taxi to get down to the Ghats we were not short of offers of a taxi!!! It was very hard choosing one as there were so many drivers shouting "choose me". The driver that took us down to the Ghat waited in the parking area for 3 hours, that's how desperate they are to get a fare.

The hotel had a large pool which was partly covered with a rather dirty looking mesh cover. There were a few bed chairs and tables, but it was too hot for us to sit out there as it was 47 degrees centigrade. Not the hotels fault tho.

The resturant offered a wide variety of food and the breakfasts were good, lots to choose from and the staff were really friendly and efficient. The hotel is not within walking distance of the Ganges, you will definately need some form of transport. I felt safe in the area the whole time.

I have not complaints about the hotel and would recommend it.

Don't think to find a nice colonial style hotel .You just get an old smelly dark building . A cold poorly decorated lobby, dark interiors, halls and a disappointed dark restaurant . Rooms are dusty with wood imitation plasyic tiles . Overpriced and unfriendly staff .
Don't go there

Exuding colonial charm but with all the mod-cons. this hotel is the flagship of the Clarks Group of Hotels, one of the oldest hotel groups in India. Within proximity of the hotel guests can visit the Old British Cantonment Area, the old city, Vishwanath Temple, and of course the Ghats of the Ganges, and Sarnath-the site of Buddha's first sermon. A must do when in this holy city is a boat ride in the Ganges either at sunset or sunrise. The restaurants on-site offer ample choices from North Indian to international dishes and even popular street food dishes. After a long day exploring Varanasi on foot and in rickshaws, a quick dip at the hotel pool is sure to be refreshing.
