We walked to find this place based on a recommendation in our rough guide and yes the location on the Ganges is great but the rooms are ridiculously over priced as the are dirty prison cells... and we are used to staying in the most budget of accommodation! The sheets were dirty and the 4 rooms we view were damp and filthy! We could almost forgive this if the price was in line but they are not, the hotel is obviously cashing in on their guidebook status and pushing prices up. Worst of all is the lazy brut of a man who greets you - he can barely be bothered to stand up and in fact with his head in his wife's lap pointed us to check the rooms ourselves quoting an initial high price which he was obviously chancing his luck with. Hungry we decided to have food before heading to look for another place we sat down in the restaurant to which he walked to around 50m from our table and shouted hello, hello quite aggressively waving the menu...customer service clearly not his priority. We then had to find him to ask to order (asleep again) and he directed me to the kitchen round the back to collect our own drinks etc. We found the whole experience so awful that it was comical! That guy needs to be replaced by someone less lazy, more focussed on customer service and then this place could be worthy in the guidebooks as a very basic last resort with a great view from the terrace.
