“Cheap but not enjoyable at all”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

The only real pro of this hotel is its location – from a rooftop area you are able to see the Taj Mahal over the wall that surrounds it. The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk from the west entrance gate of the Taj Mahal which makes it very handy when having to get up early for a sunrise entrance.
Now for the cons. The hotel is situated in an old, ru ndown part of Agra, away from the other hotels and in a area that cars are not supposed to drive through. Therefore, if you are travelling there by car, you will need to get a tuk tuk for 5 mins or walk for 10 – 15 mins. The hotel website boasts a rooftop restaurant and a leafy courtyard however I would say that neither of these statements are really accurate. There is not rooftop restaurant only a concrete area with old tables and chairs. And although their courtyard has some trees, it will not match the image that springs to mind when you say leafy courtyard. They do serve food here but I wouldn’t recommend eating any of it. When we ordered bottles of soda, we were presented with bottles that were covered in rust from the cap and years out of date.
The room itself is an ok size however with bars on the windows and a padlock on the doors, it feels slightly like a prison cell. Additionally, instead of sheets or a duvet, you have a rough blanket / rug to sleep under which is extremely itchy during the night. Finally, hot water is only available on demand and via a bucket.
Would not recommend anyone to stay here – although very cheap, its not an enjoyable stay.

This place is recommended in guidebooks and makes no bones about being proud of that. WHY it's recommended is harder to understand. It's just a filthy hotel in a particularly filthy part of a filthy city. The city of Agra does not do the Taj Mahal justice, and the Hotel Sidhartha does not not do Agra justice. How bad your takeaway from this place is depends entirely on your expectations for a budget hotel. If you expect clean sheets and/or towels, a flushable toilet and working lights, you might be disappointed. If you expect a roof over your head and at least a door lock from the 19th century, you might be OK.

On the plus side, there is a partial view of the Taj from the roof and entertainment provided by the occasional wandering monkey. The restaurant is no worse than anything else in Taj Ganj.

Room Tip: Remember, the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. The Taj Ganj area is like a morgue on a Sunday mornin...

It was horrible experience to stay a night in this hotel. I was so shocked as soon as I step in the room. Its a deluxe room with dirty mattress and dirty pillow and shoe sign on the blanket. Its winter time but at-least there should be system of heating if hotel provide air-condition in summer. When I objected to move into another room then we shifted to another one which was at-least clean but in the bath room the geyser was leaked and too much rust and it looks like that it might burst any moment. I saw some insects and worms in the bathroom so we decided to change the hotel. When I complained the hotel staff didn't take it seriously. WIFI password was given but they excused of not working during our stay.I don't recommend this hotel at hotel as they its not hygienic and not good for family at all. Its a suggestion to the owner to check every room and make some maintenance.

Room Tip: Check the room first then pay to the hotel.

I stayed here for 2 days in December. It's a budget hotel and worth it's prize. Best thing is that it is too close to Taj. It is just one minute walk to West Gate of the Taj.

One thing I didn't like is the check out time of this hotel. Check out time is 10:00 am and it is too early I believe. They should change the check out time to 12 noon.

If you are on a serious budget, dont mind walking and dont need frills, this is the hotel for you. It is as basic as you can get even for a backpacker place but it is close enough to the Taj and the staff is friendly. Our room lacked windows or AC and there were bats outdside. The food was also very limited but the bed was sleepable and showers were warm. Considering what we paid, I think we got a deal.
