“Great budget place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Had a great experience at Tourists Rest House, it was clean, relatively quiet, and the service was great. There was free wi-fi in the common garden area, which in and of itself was a lovely place to sit. The rooms are basic, but for $12 a night you can't really go wrong. It is a bit out of the way for visiting both the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, but the rickshaw ride there is completely manageable and only cost us about 50 rupees.

We (two female medical students) stayed here for one night while visiting Agra. We were not looking for luxery - we were looking for a cheap, clean, safe place to stay, and this is what we found in the Tourist Rest House. For less than $10 total, we got a room with a double bed and basic bathroom. The sheets were clean, and though the mattresses have seen better days, the bed was comfortable.

Our favorite part of the stay was the center courtyard, which is surrounded by tropical plants and vines. There are tables in the middle of this tropical garden where many of the guests sit to drink chai or use the hotel wifi. The courtyard was quiet and peaceful, and seemed worlds away from the dust and noise of the city. The hotel cafe was decent, though we mainly drank chai and ate only a few dishes there. Overall, this hotel is an excellent value. If you are looking for a 5-star hotel, obviously this is not going to satisfy you. But for two female students, it was everything we needed: clean and safe accomodations.

Stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights, had a very nice experience.
Although the exterior is Ok but inside is appreciable and rooms are quite big and fresh.
The hotel offers nice WiFi, internet chargeable and had a nice courtyard where you can relax.
The room are neat bright and the good thing is that you can get hot water most of the time..
Its easily accessible to all monuments and station. you can also get a free pickup
In all good option to stay and I love to stay next time …!!!

Room Tip: can go for new rooms..!!!

We have stayed there two days and find this hotel very interesting !!
They provide Free High speed WiFi and also have computer’s ..We have meals in lovely courtyard and they cook very good Aloo muttur paneer…They also arranged us car for local sight seeing..
The rooms are quite big, smatter and well maintained…
We reserved couple of tickets are they are having a travel agency in their premise called bagpackertravels.com
Located in the main city where taj mahal , Agra fort and main stations are near and always tuk tuk drivers are waiting outside their..The problem we faced while coming to the hotel is the driver’s are not interested in bringing you here as the hotel didn’t entertain (pay commission) them…
In all a nice property and well located…
I will recommend this place to others….

Room Tip: Take a new rooms... they are smart and well maintained!!!

Rooms were damp and not so clean. There was a lack of hot water and the staff did not seem to keen to help. I was staying in the cheapest single room which I booked for extra night because I was feeling unwell. I was told the room would be 540 rupees which was actually less than I had paid on the internet but it was more that enough for the standard of the room.
After the extra two days and the price I had been given by two separate staff. I was asked when I was leaving at 3am to give more money for the room. Of course after a small confrontation he said it was okay for me not to pay. I do wonder whether this guy was just 'trying his luck'.
The area is also pretty bleak, nothing around and quite far from the taj.
The restaurant area was nice but the food wasn't.
I wouldn't stay here again.

I stayed there with my 2 sisters. We called the day before to ask if they had avaibility and how much was a room for 3 people. They gave me the price of 1050 Rs already more than the lonely planet mentioned but I can understand that due to inflation, guide not updated, etc...
When we arrived the next day the person at the reception showed us 2 rooms, 1 much better than the other. He saw right away the one we liked and when I checked the price, the one we wanted was now 1400 Rs. When I said that I've been told 1050 Rs he told me that it was for the other one that we didn't want (too small for 3). If it was the case why did they not mentioned the 2 prices the day before or leave it open and say "from" 1050Rs.
Also our guides said: "friendly" staff, that they were not (on our arrival anyway), may be they had a bad day as they were a bit better the following day. Lastly, personally the location is not the best, would stay near the Ta Mahal the next time, a more lively area.
On the positive side this hotel as a very cosy and lovely courtyard.

This is, by Indian standards, a terrible guest house. Despite being recommended by lonely planet and rough guide, this was the worst place we stayed in by a long way in India. For 450 rupees, you get a small, damp and dirty room with no hot water and rather abrasive service. The location is even worse, a dirty main street a fair distance from the Taj and all the other sites. It does not deserve the recommendations from LP and RG, and the subsequent swarm of travellers that were staying there, there is much better at cheaper prices elsewhere.

The restaurant was also grossly overpriced and limited.
