If you prefer an everyday-life India hotel, this is the place to be. I felt much at home and ‘member of the family’ with the people who make this place tick. The rooms are spacious and decorated with beautiful hand painted motifs. The furniture breaths a nostalgic atmosphere. I very much liked the taste of it being genuine Indian, not the fancy style of franchise hotels. Parts of the hotel were under renovation, but that wouldn’t take long.
Ramu, the manager, felt like a brother. His taking care of his guests comes from the heart. After decennia of experience, he is beyond making money, he cares about his guests. He knows how to get you to places saving you the hassle of negotiating with drivers or guides. Being a seasoned traveller myself, I much enjoyed leaving me in the hands of Ramu and making the trips he arranged for me. Prices for accommodation, food and trips are fair. If you feel the urge to bargain, better try your luck in the handicraft shops the drivers are willing to show you.
Alexander is a friendly driver who knows everything about Agra and is fluent in English. He is modest in what he charges for his services, so you can easily express your gratitude in your own price. Drivers normally get commission for bringing you to handicraft shops (carpets, jewellery, paintings, marble works). So when you buy something, it will help them. If you have no intention of buying, you’ll have to resist quite some temptations.
I had a great stay here and made a great new friend.
