When I heard our Indian travel agent had booked this hotel, I looked up the reviews and then sent them to him. He actually took a trip from Delhi to see this hotel when he got the reviews and he took the reviews to the manager. He said the manager was shocked at the comments and had no idea what was being said. This may have done wonders to make my stay nice here, but I review this hotel with a critical eye. We stayed and looked at many hotels in this price range and the rating is in comparison to those hotels, not the five star hotels.
At 11:30 PM we reached the PushP Villas. The bell staff was a bit aggressive and finally we had to push them away. This may have been a result of their sincere intent to please the customers, but for me it was a bit too much. My friend and our travel agent were there with us at check in and sheltered us from the front desk to expedite our getting to our rooms. Keep in mind that they will need to get a copy of your passport and fill out some government required forms when you check in. Make it easy on yourself and have your passports ready for them. Consider having them show you your room before going through the check in process.
The room was completely marble tiled, very clean and relatively fresh with a well working air conditioning unit in the window. You could tell the room had been smoked in, but it is near impossible to get a totally nonsmoking room in India. The bathrooms were very clean with hot water and plenty of pressure. Soaps were typical and not great quality.
We went up to the 7th floor restaurant for dinner and had a wonderful late night meal for 600 rupies with tip. The quality of the food was exceptional for the dishes we ordered except for the Nahn, but overall we enjoyed it.
We slept well and there was no outside noise to be heard. The bed was two twin beds pushed together with a 4 inch foam mattress pad on wood. There is no wireless access at this hotel. I went around and watched the cleaning in the morning and all of the rooms around us were being stripped completely and cleaned. I went around and looked at several rooms that were being cleaned. Most were very nice, but a few were not up to the level of ours, 514. One room had a small sill of windows over the bed near the ceiling and was basically a large closet and the bathroom needed a serious refurbishing. (I would have been very disappointed with this particular room) One room had a bathroom in fairly poor condition, but none had things spewed on the floor as shown in a previous review. They do not have nonsmoking rooms and all have ashtrays. If you are able to get one of the nicer rooms, this is a comfortable hotel in this price range. I was pleasantly surprised given some previous reviews. However, unlike our room, you would be sorely disappointed in some of the other rooms. I think the hotel manager is eager to make your stay here pleasant and I would recommend contacting him to assure you have a nicer room while staying here. I’d stay here again while in Agra if given the same room.
You need to take a car or rickshaw everywhere as this hotel is not in walking distance from the Taj area, shopping, and restaurants. There is nothing to see or do outside the hotel except for a marble factory across the street. We tried the buffet for breakfast at the PushP and it was very disappointing for our tastes. There was a hot vegetable which was mostly potatoes and it was fairly spicy. They had pan fried potato wedges, oatmeal, corn flakes, dosa, toast and hard boiled eggs. They had several glasses of what tasted like pear juice and milk. That was it. It was like an Indian continental breakfast. I’m not sure if you could order from the menu for breakfast, but I would recommend this if possible. Let the manager know what you want for breakfast and I’m sure they will try to accommodate you.
In one picture of the room you will see some graffiti on the wall which the PushP tried to cover up with paint. Please note that the hotel tries hard to deliver a nice experience, but our fellow travelers ruin rooms by doing things like this or smoking in the rooms. I did not fault the hotel for this, but they do need to do a better job of repainting. The tub appearance is typical of many in India and it was clean although stained. We sprayed everything with Lysol as we did in all hotels.
