“Tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

This hotel had obviously been a beauty in the past, but years of neglect has taken its toll. Carpets are worn, frayed and lifting, doors are delaminating and walls are cracked and stained. These are little things, but show no pride in ownership.

The staff are first-rate, the breakfast is adequate (large selection of typical hotel quality) and the rooms are large and well furnished, but the run-down condition just gives the place a rather depressing feel.

They are indeed close to the Taj Mahal, but not close enough to walk, so no distinct advantage there. While this place would be fine in a pinch, I would not recommend to my friends.

This was my 4th stay at this Hotel (27-Oct-12). What I observed during the course of stay is the wonderful hospitality and excellent quality of service.

Food was good, room was properly maintained, near to Taj Mahal and staff members were polite and hospitable.

I would wish to stay at this hotel every time I visit Agra.

This hotel is under massive renovation. Some of the essentials like elevators were not working for most part of my 2-day trip. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. The staff members were very courteous and helpful. The breakfast was very elaborate and had a mix of Indian and continental dishes. The lunch and dinner options were a bit expensive.

I stayed at Howard Sarovar Portico in Agra during the Good Friday weekend in 2012. This was my second visit to the hotel, the earlier one being in Oct.2010.

The lobby area is well maintained and gives a feeling of a good hotel. This perception, however is broken as one steps into the elevators. These are old and not maintained well. The carpeting on the floors (especially the 2nd floor) is worn out in many places. The huge chandelier hung verticall from the top of the building to the first floor has accumulated a truckload of dust. It seems the hotel staff are unable to devise a way of cleaning it well.

Rooms are quite comfortable on the inside. Room service is prompt. Restaurant is the highlight of the hotel. Breakfast menu is quite elaborate and very tasty, serving a variety of indian and continental dishes.

Another positive is the nice swimming pool area. Overall, good value for money if you are able to get a good early-bird deal for the hotel through one of the prominent travel sites

The room is vey old and needs to be renovated PRONTO! Some of the lights are not working, the bathroom has alot of stains and has a quite off smell.

Though I find the reception staff auite accommodating, they need to work FAST and EFFICIENT! I had the longest reception transaction in my whole life in this hotel...such a disappointment.

The brekfast is mediocre. The coffee???? oh well, terrible is an understatement.

When we stayed at this hotel, major renovation work was underway. In fact, the whole front of the hotel was being reconstructed so check in and reception was temporarily downstairs in the basement.

Before we checked in, we asked the staff if we would be disturbed by the building works and we were assured that we wouldnt. However the building work started before 8am in the morning and didnt finish until 9pm (and even then the work only eventually stopped after we made several complaints about the noise). On check in we also specifically requested a room that was away from the noise of the building works but ended up practically right next to it. The staff had a very bad attitude and did not seem to care that the works were disturbing our stay or want to help in any way.

Despite this inconvenience, the room was actually okay - large in size and very comfortable. The best thing about this hotel though is its location. It is away from the hustle and bustle but is still just a 2 minute drive to one of the gates to the Taj Mahal. making it easy to get to for a sunrise visit. There was a nice outdoor pool too.

I think once the renovation works are complete, this hotel would be an okay choice for 1 or 2 nights stay in Agra but the building works certainly interrupted our stay. Having said that, don't expect too much in the way of good service from the staff.
