“service and ambiance could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

We stayed here for one night only on a Kuoni tour of the Golden Triangle. Personally I dislike modern clinical hotels, however the rooms and public areas were clean and functional. We had the least personal service here, we were not informed that we had to book our "slot" for dinner and ended up eating at 9pm - too late as were were up the next morning at 5am to visit the Taj Mahal at daybreak. This was especially frustrating as we could see empty tables earlier in the evening. Some others in our party also had trouble with the "happy hour". They were told that as they were only staying for one night it was not included in the package. Whilst waiting for our dinner slot we sat in the bar - had to ask for more chairs and also our order was not fulfilled. There seemed to be a lack of staff and no-one in charge of this area.
I cannot say it was a bad hotel, but we should have been treated better, even though we were only staying there for one night.
Food choice and quality was excellent and service in the restaurant was superb, especially at lunchtime, which was quieter than the evening session.

From the moment we walked in we felt like valued guests. All the staff were wonderfully service minded and when they said they would do something they followed up and did as they promised. Check in was quick and smooth with a lovely cool tea welcome drink. They sign you up automatically to the Trident Group guest program--it would be good to ask you before doing that as for overseas visitors it might not be worth the trouble.

The lobby is lovely and the pool area and gardens are the focal point of the hotel with the dining room and rooms surrounding them. Our room had a lovely view of the gardens. The room was very clean and reasonably sized but a bit dark because of the dark curtains but that meant we slept well at night because no light came into the room. Nice flat screen TV with cable. Bathroom spacious, good water pressure, lovely fans, plenty of hot water. One negative was WIFI charge was a steep 800 rupees for 24 hours. However, you could use the hotel's computers for free to access e-mail from the business center although these terminals were usually busy. There is a spa and gift shop. The gym was under maintenance when we were there but they had made arrangements to use the gym at their sister property, the plush Obero next to the Taji.

Breakfast buffet was not included in the room rate but worth the money as there was an excellent selection of Western and Indian foods. Dinner was very good too. Afternoon tea around the pool is very relaxing but everyone has the same idea! Staff are great about seating you inside and then moving you outside once a table has cleared in the garden. They even served us a delicious carrot halva for tea which wasn't on the menu.

You can buy your Taj tickets from the hotel for the same price as at the Taj and save yourself waiting time. You get a bottle of water and booties to wear over your shoes which you need for visiting the mausoleum. You can walk to the Taj. The hotel will also arrange a car or a Tuk Tuk. The drivers will want 100 rupees for such a short distance so bargain hard. We booked a hotel car (Innova) to take us to Agra Fort railway station for about 800 rupees. The driver helped us negotiate a porter who helped us find our carriage.

The price of a room at this lovely hotel is very reasonable. But the food, WIFI, laundry charges aren't cheap. Still the hotel is a lovely oasis in chaotic Agra. Highly recommended.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for choosing Trident during your visit to Agra and also for sparing time to share your experience on Trip Advisor.

My team and I deem it a privilege to have served you and we are delighted to read such a wonderful review from you. We are happy to learn from your feedback that you found our team and food to be amazing. Thank you indeed for this compliment !

I have conveyed your gracious comments to the entire team, for whom it has been a great source of inspiration.

It is our continuous endeavor to ensure that every guest leaves as an ambassador of our product and services. We are delighted to note that our food, services and product were to your satisfaction.

It is with regret I read that we fell short to meet your expectation of food prices during your stay. We feature premium produce on our menus and as such most meats, seafood and vegetables our sourced from other cities. We also endeavor to keep our prices in line with similar hotels in the city, however based on your feedback we shall relook at the prices once the review of the same is conducted and make amends accordingly.

With regards to your comments on wifi charges, may I request you to please contact me whenever you plan your next visit to Agra. I would be happy to work out a special rate for you which will include internet.

I thank you once again for your positive and appreciative feedback and look forward to having more opportunities to be of service to you

Thank you,

Yours sincerely,

this hotel was lovely. when you first walk through the doors they great you with a lovely group and welcome of fresh juice. it is pretty conviently located- walking distance to some shops and mcd's. the rooms are fine, clean. the shower is great, nice products and great water pressure!
the food. best we had in india. totally delicious. we had both breakfast and dinner there and the food was delicious. asian of all kinds. the staff was wonderful and explained what every dish was and was happy to make exceptions in the menu. i must say we had the buffet all times as we were with a group. there is a beautiful pool and i was quite regretful that i didnt bring my suit. the shops are great and not really overpriced. the wifi was a bit spotty in the rooms although we found this all through india. i would definitely recommend and stay there again.

The Trident Agra gave a solid impression. The staff was very serviceminded and helpfu. The location was not in the middle of the city centre, but still convenient in order to reach main attractions of Agra. Very nice public areas. Tasty and well prepared meals. But... The rooms was not what was expected from a five star hotel. The statement is unfortunately fare from... It might be a little overpriced too. However, based on the overall impression I can recommend the Trident Agra hotel.

Service:
The area has own security details so it felt very safe. Plenty of parking for cars and buses, all parking inside the hotel perimeter. We were greeted warmly and offered refreshment while waiting for check in. The public areas like the lobby, the garden- and pool area and the dining area were very nice. Well kept, spacious, modern and really enjoyable. The staff in the dining hall stood out as extremely serviceminded and professional. The chefs presented the food very nicely and paid attention to guests. Very friendly and they represented the hotel in a super manner.

Rooms:
The room was not as expected for a five star property. The room was very average and did not possess in room the amenities expected for a five star hotel. It was clean and okay, but really nothing more. Unfortunately. The room also smelled of some insect repellant, and the smell was kind of annoying. The device providing the smell was located in a power plug close to the bed. The need for insect repellant is most likely present, this really felt to much. The bed was a little hard and not of the quality expected in a five star hotel.

Location:
It is a little outside Agra city center. There is a small mall a few hundred meters from the hotel. The disadvantage is that you must walk more or less on the shoulder of the heavily trafficked roac, and the mall had a lot of empty shops. But there is a cash machine on the top floor, right next to the cinema. This is convenient if running of out cash. Except of this mall we did not discover much else too do in the vicinity of the hotel.

100 points to the location of this hotel. The property is huge with the vegetable farms n trees. My kids enjoyed taking a walk around. The hotel is well maintained and clean. We all enjoyed our breakfast with a sufficient choice of Indian and continental. Overall a comfortable stay. would not rank this hotel with 5 stars but likely recommend this for a short stay.

I stayed at the Trident for 2 nights with the tour group Gate 1. The hotel is convenietly located to the main tour attraction : Taj Mahal. The staff went above and beyond my expectations in terms of service. They were ALL polite and courteous and always willing to asist me in any was possible.

The restaurant offered a daily buffet or ala carte and both choices were reasonably priced: food was delicious. You must try the pizza but order one for 2 people: it was quite large.

There were nightly shows that included Indian dancers. They also had brief pottery demonstrations in close proximity to the entertainment area. They had three shops that featured lovely items with reasonable prices and good quality merchandise.

Finally, the rooms were lovely. I was able to watch BBC and CNN which was extrememly gratifying since that was not possible at all the other hotels I stayed at.

The restaurant staff was also very friendly including the chef who went above and beyond to explain many of the indian dishes to me.

Overall, it was at outstanding experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone that will visit Agra, India

Room Tip: The rooms on the first level may be good for those that want to be in close proximity to the pool...

Very close to Taj Mahal, beautifully kept hotel with fabulous staff! There was great musical entertainment one of the nights in the background while enjoying drinks. The rooms surround a lovely garden with a pool in the middle. I will never forget the smell of lilies walking into the foyer with the great decor too! Would definitely go back!
