“A refreshing change”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

Just back from a short stay of one night on 4th August. The hotel is a refreshing change from the usual ones....One gets many Heritage style properties around the Golden triangle but I would rate it among the very best in terms of quality of construction. The architecture is nice, rooms are quite large and very beautiful with small but very nice bathrooms and for the price that we paid ( Around 4K with an extra bed for kid from Makemytrip, booked a month in advance) was a very good Value for money. Very close to Taj, just 10 minutes drive and far from city, it is quite a winner....

Because of the recent takeover by Wyndham management, many things were under maintenance including the pool and fountains so can't comment on them. They operate the disc only when a large group requests ( understandable) so a small family may miss out on that. We didn't try the food at the restaurant ( Prices are quite prohibitive and I find food usually the same at all the star hotels) , so it's a better idea to eat out. If you charge INR 500 plus for a Daal Makhni you are simply out for me, even if you are Bukhara....The complimentary breakfast was nice and like any good star hotel, the spread was decent...

Staff was quite friendly and helpful. I think one day stay was too less as most of the time we were out, a stay here deserves at least 2 nights to actually relax and enjoy the property. Highly recommended.....

Room Tip: All rooms are in a cluster so not sure if one has an advantage over the other.

If you visit Agra, stay somewhere nice. There isn't much to do in Agra, other than the Taj, and if you do stay there are some real dives. The Wyndham Grand Agra was a beautiful hotel - great rooms, staff and facilities. We stayed here for two nights and just relaxed.

This is an excellent hotel for the price
PROS-large clean well decorated rooms with v large comfortable bads ,in the old style with modern bathrooms, flat screen TV and DVDs ,Free internet in the rooms.Nice staff who are polite and do not hassle you for tips
CONS-Internet is v slow, very few english channels on the tv,Luke warm water ( fine for a shower but too cold for a bath), a lot of flies around the pool ( but it is monsoon season) and my biggest negative very expensive food!

Excellent food , excellent hospitality , good staff , various kind of Restaurant ...especially loved the concept of their theme retaurant Maharo Gav and Ta dhin - the Disc.....

Even the rooms are very specious and equiped with all ammenities except Shower caps....

I would rate this hotel one of the best after Amar villas ....

Special Thanks to Mr.Vivek Mahajan for taking care for even a small small thing for our group.

Room Tip: Take Base category of room if you are fond of Bath tub ... as they dont have Bath Tubs in higher cat...

The hotel has been very artistically built. Its truly grand in terms of what it entails - Large gardens, and an architecture that is very Mughal. What strikes you most is its marble crafted sparkling lobby. Rooms are pretty nice, large and cozy. There are various blocks in open spaces for e.g. one block may have as many as 14-16 rooms with a large common sit-out. Large suites are in the same building as the reception is (good but nothing extra-ordinary). The hotel could have scored better if food was in place. The Indian cuisine was a little disappointing and we felt that they should have paid more attention to that. Best time to go is November to February as it is cool climate. Taj Mahal is 15 min drive from the hotel. Overall good.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms in the same building as reception. Get the ones in blocks outside the main building.

Nice typical Uttra Pradesh achitecture. In the early mornIng 05:30 the Taj Mahal opens. Take an official tourguide. He shows you the best spots and gives you the entire story. So early is the best time and no ques and mostly only foreigners

The hotel is only 5 minutes from the Taj Mahal

We just stayed here for one night, so didn't get to appreciate the pool although it looked fab, as did all the grounds.

We had a leak when we first arrived at our room, and were promptly moved next door. We ate that night in the buffet where we were promised a live show and a puppet show. The staff were overly attentive which was a little off putting as we just wanted to sit, eat, chat and relax. The show was dancers and musicians, which you were expected to tip. The puppet show was not great, just a way to sell their puppets along with some other stalls set up to sell you things. You were also expected to tip the puppet guy. Eventually, after paying the ridiculously high bill, we just took our desserts to our room to escape the constant attention and money making opportunities.

When we returned, our extra bed was still not set up, although once informed, they sent someone right away. I refused to tip the men who did this, a. Because the dinner had taken all my small change and b. the bed should have been set up before we arrived or at 6pm as they told us when checking in, not at 9pm at night.

Breakfast buffet was in lovely surroundings and a great selection. Very welcome after a 5am start to see the Taj Mahal.

It would have deserved more stars, but just felt as though we were being asked for more and more money at every turn.
