“Nice place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2010

A nice place to stay with family. The cottages were good but looked a bit old. The hotel is located in the outskirts of the city, so everytime you need to go to the main city, you need to hire a taxi or an auto..
The hotel restaurant is really good and the food was very tasty.
There is no view of the lake from the cottages unlike its name suggests as the trees have grown up and it very much depends on the cottage you check in..
Overall, it was good and we enjoyed our trip.

Review by SK Borade
Hi, Me & my wife were on the south trip.
we went to ooty and stayed in Hotel Lake View. I searched so much in net but didn’t find good articles about the cost of stay in ooty and places to visit. So here is my experience. May be useful to the people who are going first time. and iam sure this article is not useful who has already visited ooty.As they can judge by themself.

I started from Bangalore around morning 5am and reached Mysore by 8am, took a diversion towards ooty avoiding Mysore city traffic. From there it is single high way road (road is good) and reached bandipur forest. In my entire journey i liked driving through bandipur. Found 8 to 9 spotted deers while going and 2 elephants and 20 deers when coming. After reaching gudalur we have two options to reach ooty.one is 36Km to ooty and is very narrow having 36 hairpin bends. And the other road is 62Km to ooty in that around 40Km road is worst. So while going i chose first option but when coming took the second option. In that way we can cover both site seeing places on the way. We reached ooty by 1pm and took room in Hotel Lake View.
about Lake View:
I shold tell room was too good. They have 123 independent cottages. So you can feel like you are staying at your home. The first thing i like is we can park our car in front of our cottage. It has two rooms. With attached bath. They provided dining table in first room and bed in the second room. We tried food at the restaurant on the first day. Food was quite good. Whether was too cool, Too chilled, hotel room doesn’t have heater. Room rent including service tax was comparatively high. Still I like because of independent cottages.

Hotel Lakeview is a nice place for those who want to sepnd quality time away from city rush.. Cottages are good and the hotel ambience is also good. However since the trees are grown, so one cant have a good view of the lake from the cottages.. Hotel has got a really good restaurant with a wide variety of food choices. Dont forget to contact the hotel travel desk if you dont have your own vehicle and dont know much about the places near by..
On the whole, the stay was pleasant apart from one thing that the hotel didnt have anything organized for the New year eve, although passes for other hotels were available at the reception..
3 stars for the hotel and 4.5 stars for the restaurant..

nightmare, terrible these r small words for this hotel.let me start with check in :-

Check in was quick though i was told to deposit 500 even though i booked it for 3 days and paid the money in advance.

They offer cottage but not rooms.outside view of cottage was good but when u enter inside, its a 1947 era cottage.electric switches were not working properly.geyser were working for name sake, turn it on 1 hour before and u will get only 1 bucket hot water later.intercom was not working.u can have fire facility in room if u take superior cottage but not basic.though if u pay 150 extra per day then u can get a room heater.i asked for towels but was not given in my 3 days stay.i didnt got any view of the lake from my room.room service was toooooo slow.

Restaurant was another worst thing to mention about.service was too slow with minimum options to order.taste was pathetic.charges were too high.whether u order from room or come in the restaurant, dont expect to get it before 1 hour!!! if u want it early, shout at the manager...u will get the order quickly.i waited for 1 hour then shouted at the manager then only i got the food.
Cross check the bill before u pay.they gave me inflated bill and when i shouted, they adjusted the extra amount.

one advice to everybody who still want to book this hotel...IF U STILL WANT TO GO FOR THIS HOTEL,PLS BOOK FOR ONE DAY FIRST.IF U R SATISFIED THEN BOOK FURTHER.TRY TO AVOID THE RESTAURANT.IT WAS NOT ONLY ME WHO WAS SHOUTING FOR BAD SERVICE..OTHER FELLOW BOARDERS WERE ALSO DOING THE SAME.

  • Liked — outside view of the cottages
  • Disliked — everything else.....terrible experience in this hotel

The room is good. They have a separate hall with sofa, dining table and TV and a separate bedroom with spacious and clean bathroom (but no toilet paper). The rooms are row house types, so one has a small garden space in front of you. The view from the room is also good. As the hotel is away from the main city and bus stand, it is quite peaceful.

Hotel has a travel desk, but we found their charges were slightly higher. So, we didn't use their services. We took an auto to bus stand and hired a taxi (all fixed rates displayed on a big board). We used the same taxi for our entire trip.

We had dinner in the hotel lakeview - 15 mins to take order, only 1 man doing everything in very inefficient way. Anyway, since we had read lot of reviews we didn't expect great service. Fish curry was ok only, veg biriyani was junk. We decided to avoid food in this hotel. Tea was just too sweet, best to ask for sugar separately.

Here is the summary
- Price is moderate, if they improve their service, this resort has a good potential to be a high end resort.
- Food - best avoided
- Rooms - good.
- Definite value for money
- If you are prepared for slow service, you will have a good time.

  • Liked — the room is quite spacious, worth the money you pay
  • Disliked — the service in restaurant as well as room service is really slow, wish they can improve
