We had stayed at King's Cliff before, and requested our tour operator to book us in again, as we had enjoyed it, and it is convenient for visiting lots of old haunts including my old school. Once again, we found the staff, service, meals and the grounds around all lovely. However, this time we had been booked into the room called Iago which was a bit of a disappointment. It has none of the good views advertised, as the only windows are one to the rear which looks out on to a wall behind a small littered area, and a second high internal window, through which a light shone until late at night. Noises from the kitchen and public area near the gents' toilet were also a bit of a disturbance at night and in the early morning. Also, bathrooms are advertised as having baths, but the one in our adjoining bathroom looked old and stained with brown marks - which immediately made one feel the quailty of the whole place was much lower. The rest ie room, bed etc were clean and comfortable, with a lot of effort to present the room artistically. We had a conversation about all the above with the lovely lady on duty, who asked that we write this review. We were also offered a room change but were to be out all day, and leaving early the following morning, so stayed where we were. There may be a price difference compared to the other rooms, as that was alluded to, but I would still make the above comments for a room at the given tariff, and would suggest clarifying with customers whether they are ok with the room despite the aspects described above. I would happily stay there again, but know now to ask not to be in Iago.

Room Tip: Not Iago room

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your valuable review ,We do appreciate hearing from our guests, as their comments are vital for us to continue in improving our services.
We are happy to note that the services rendered by our team were to your satisfaction.
Being a Heritage property we are restricted in making changes to the property which does affect the view in certain rooms. It is unfortunate that your travel advisor did not give you details on the Standard room , For which we wanted to upgrade you to make you feel better.
You have given us valuable comments and action is initiated .
We look forward to your continued visits and take this opportunity to assure you of our best attention and services at all times
Thanks & regards,

Ooty is hustle and noise, Kings Cliff is what Ooty was supposed to be, cool, calm and serene, you get it all here. Restaurant is good and varied menu, can be a bit hit and miss at times but worth trying even if your not staying here. Rooms are very comfortable and in keeping with oldy worldy Ooty. The gardens and the views are wonderful to sit in and admire the fantastic views of Ooty and the hills beyond. If you want what ooty was all about try this place.

Room Tip: Rooms are quieter away from the restaurant.

Our tour operator recommended this hotel for us when we made our visit out to Ooty and the tea plantations. We were quite satisfied with our stay here, although we did have a few small issues, nothing worth mentioning. As Ooty is what is known as a "Hill Station", from the time when the English would escape the heat of the low lands by coming up to the mountains, the place certainly made us feel welcome. We had two meals at the hotel restaurant and they were both quite satisfactory, and they allowed us to bring in a bottle of wine, since they themselves had none available.
Make sure you try the Peanuts Massala, as they are to die for, and we spent the rest of our time in India trying to replicate, to no avail......:(

We stayed at this place for 3 days in February and our stay here was a very happy one . Calm and clean , Kings cliff has everything you want for a great holiday in Ooty . The Vegetarian food options were very good and quite tasty too .
The staff was very helpful and courteous throughout especially Divya and Nasrul Islam made sure that all our requirements were taken care of.

One suggestion would be to provide access to a few Kannada TV channels in the room as available at their other properties around Ooty .

May be it was a Sunday. May be they had too many guests. May be they were short-staffed. May be they were just not prepared. May be they are always like this.
We were recommended this place very highly - to have a quick bite before attending to some business. Well we were recommended the continental cuisine but we ended up ordering Chinese because it looked good on the menu. Was that the mistake. No!
Let me start with the wait - we were told to sit in the cosy hall while they found us a table for two. And wait we did for close to half an hour staring at a table for two that had just been vacated. When we finally pointed it out - the captain asked to place ourselves there. And it took them another twenty minutes before they noticed we were waiting and before they noticed the table had still not been cleaned. We were finally moved to another table.
The food took more time to come and when it did it was just not what we ordered - the schezwan rice didn't taste like one and we asked for chicken in it and were given vegetables. The lamb was a little rubbery. The best part was probably the apple pie that we shared but my lady says it was not Granny Smith's apple in it!
By the way they don't serve alcohol but evidently you can bring your own beer.
Overall we spent close to three hours there and came away totally dissatisfied.

Dear Guest,

Let me begin by apologizing for your visit and food not being satisfactory with us.We have no excuses but to accept your rightful comments. With regard to you having to wait for a table , we are sorry we had to make you wait as we were holding a table for a reservation made by another guest and once pointed out by yourself our staff gave you the reserved table. Being a sunday we were practically full with a heavy rush of guests .

You have given us specific points that we have failed your expectations on and we have made a note of each one of them. We will definitely work on all the aspects you have mentioned.

Do come back and allow us to leave you with a more positive impression of the place.

Regards,
Jeffrey Kendall
