“Unpleasant stay at Fernhill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

I was cautioned by RCI that renovations are happening. i was only worried about noises related to renovation. I faced many issues:
* We were given a room that is yet to be renovated. Room was of poor quality to say the least
* Kitchen sink was overflowing - water all over the place.
* Bathroom doors were not latching properly
* plug points were not functioning properly
* spoiled food (yellow dal tadka) was given to us.
I was told that renovated rooms are good, but please dont take any rooms that are yet to renovated. even basic maintenance are not being done.
only blessing in disguise is that staff attitude is good. housekeeping staff were exceptional as i had to call them so many times due to the issues we had in the room.

Room Tip: Please wait for renovation to get completed. hopefully we can get good rooms

We satyed here for couple of nights with our family. Our group comprised of 10 members including kids. This was not our first trip to this resort. Being a sterling member, we have visited this resort many times. However, this time the service was disitinctly different, ofcourse for better. The whole resort is being reneovated. Some of the renovated rooms are very clean and good. However, because of renovation one of our rooms was just above the restaurant which made our room the most nosiest in the resort. The cooking used to start from as early as 2 AM and whole night we could hear the sound of vessels being thrown literally. Early morning along with the fresh breeze, we could smell aroma of cooked food. Barring these issues, the resort and rooms are very nice and beautiful. And we will certainly stay here next time but nowhere in the room which is even close to the restaurant.

Room Tip: Stay away from the rooms which are close to the resaturant

Stay Duration : 3 nights, Novemeber 2012 end.

This was my first travel with my 2 yr old son and had lot of doubts over the facilities and the way i will be able to manage stay in ooty. Thanks to resort that it was good.
I got a very nice deal from makemytrip which i had booked basic room including breakfast.

Positives : Room which i got was with latest facilities, microwave, mini refrigerator, tea/coffee maker, utensils and proper kitchen area in room, LCD, modern fittings in the room and bathroom. Full time hot water supply was a big positive. No doubt you need a room heater which was also available. Views of hills were quite decent. Kids play area was provided which my son loved. Activities area was provided which we utilized for playing TT, learning dance from instructors. Room service was good and cleaning was also appreciable.

Big positive for me was a near by milk shop from where i used to buy packed milk and used to boil using tea/coffee maker in room and used to store in refrigerator for my kid.

They had an operational massage center which we used and i felt costly was not too high. Full body massage in Rs 1600/- for 1 hr i will not rate too costly as compared to many resorts which charge 4K for the same.

Food: Breakfast was good and service was also good. Dinner was a bit costly buffet (500pp including tax) and the variety served was not that great to the costing. Staff is good and serve happily although rest is buffet.

Negatives: no fitness center (i never was in need of it), you need to spend roughly Rs300/- for to-fro trip using auto from auto stand outside resort to have a trip to city, although distance is not much but charges of auto walas are this much. But this is true for any resort away from city infact it is still near. Dinner buffet a little costly. Some renovation is going on but that does not disturb you at all.

They have a policy to charge for even 3-4 hrs. So, i had to pay Rs 350/- (although not much but still had to pay) becoz i reached by overnight bus from bangalore to ooty and checked in resort at 7am in the morning. Internet is not free and they charge Rs50/- for half an hr + taxes

I used auto from auto stand for the complete city tour and paid Rs 700 for 8 hrs to auto guy who took me around to many places (7 points) as compared to hotel travel agency charging Rs 800+taxes for 4 hrs and 3 places.

Advice: try to get renovated room.

We stayed here for 3 nights recently. Main building with 38 rooms is a very good building with recent renovations (on-going). We stayed here in Nov 2012. Rooms had been very recently opened (few days only) so the furniture and bed are in excellent condition. Few kinks still need to be worked out in bathroom fixtures. I am sure once the customer complaints are resolved over a period of next few months these issues would be worked out. Hot water comes as a trickle (problem in most hotels in Ooty). Buffet breakfast is very good.

Room Tip: Try to stay in main building.

I and my wife had stayed here for 4 days during new years eve. The hotel location is about 1.5 km away from main Ooty market. Location of this hotel is very beautiful. We had stayed in an apartment which was renovated so it was really nice with a small kitchen. In early morning & late night the entire hotel used to get surrounded by fog- very beautiful with serene view of hill side around the hotel. Our stay was pretty comfortable. Food was decent overall but the food we had ordered in room on new yrs eve was not good at all. One can go to main marketplace for shopping & also there eateries like domino's & cafe coffee day. Overall a beautifully located hotel with a nice comfortable stay.

It was raining when I reached Ooty & way to the resort passed through very bad road with difficulty finding coveyance. On reaching I was welcomed with a welcome drink but later on found room given to me was shabby, I later on found that they will be renovating their property soon, and was given choice from amongst three rooms in different blocks. Room service was poor too.
Positives: Courteous staff, Good Food & Several Activities
But despite all I enjoyed my stay, mainly on the fact of the location and weather. It was drizzling most of the time, and view from outside our room was awesome.
