Clean rooms, very good food, good location, very friendly and patient staff and always excellent service, I hope we'll ge there again soon. If you want to visit the beautiful Nilgiris, this is the best place to stay. We all enjoyed it very much!

We had very nice time in Pinewood Guest House. They offered us variety indian foods and were very nice (If you order, you can even get european breakfast). We could feel very comfort there because of their good service and warm hospitality. The building was nicely renewed and the room was very clean.

We were a group of a german university (TU Darmstadt) and we stayed 12 days in this wonderful guesthouse. First to say: the people who work in this House all the time tryed to help us, the cook showed us, that indish cooking is very interesting and tasty, he cooked not to sharp for our tongues and no one of us had problems with this indish food. There was no wish, that they didn't help us. The house is not expensive and surrounded by teaplants, from here you can get to several interesting places. With the lunch-packs from the guesthouse we were sure that the food is OK. We are sure, that we will come back to the hotels friendly and helpful director Stanley and his nice crew.

Least to say, I just stumbled upon this place without a plan. Our actual plan was to stay somewhere in Kotagiri, but as we were not satisfied with the guest house we had arranged, we thought we would explore or take the safe bet of hotels in Ooty. But, on a tip off from a tout, we just decided why not we take a look, as it was more or less on our way to Ooty. We drove reluctantly to this place with their Manager Sasi guiding us patiently and as it was right on the Kotagiri - Coonoor Highway, not much effort was required. It was a find, yes really. What we instantly like about the place was that, there were no other buildings in the vicinity and the atmosphere around was unpolluted but for the noise of the few vehicles passing on the road. The small creek flowing beneath was so good to see and the variety of flowers these people have managed to grow was just amazing. The weather around was pleasant and the small tea plantations around gave a refreshing feel. On inquiry, we found that this place is just three months old and everything was brand new, right from the mattress to the sheets.

Pinewood is efficiently managed by a small team of staff members, 4 of them and hence no unnecessary disturbances. The Chef, Karthik makes good South Indian food and his rasam is a die far. The breakfast was complimentary, not a hotel like spread but a homely one dish thing. Other than the atmosphere and assured privacy, the genuine home feel and the staff made the difference, be it in setting our breakfast table in the open with party umbrellas or going out of the way to buy things for the kitchen (the nearest village is Kattabettu, 3 kms away and for bigger shopping you need to go to Kotagiri, some 9 kms away) in case of our last minute amend in the agreed menu were all so impressive. One night sitting in the open and chatting, when it started to drizzle and we started packing up but from nowhere, the boys came running with the party umbrellas and installed them in a few minutes and assured us the drizzle will fade away soon. Yes, it did.

The accommodation options here include 2/3/6 bedded rooms and a twin bedroom cottage, all with fantastic views of the valley, flowers and creek beneath. The food is simple but good, and the service, not very professional but very homely. You may request these guys to arrange for a trek or a picnic to the Rallia Dam (the water source of Coonoor) and just laze around. Kotagiri and Coonoor are hardly 15 mins drive from here and Ooty takes about half an hour, very near yet so far. This place served as a centre spot for us, giving us time to explore each location each day.

To sum it up, a clean, neat economical guest house with good food and service and very pocket friendly too. Try this place, if you want to relax, unwind and be away from the pollution and buildings and yet everything very accessible.

My big thanks to Mr.Prakash (the Owner), a great man to chat with and share ideas, Sasi (the Manager) who goes out of the way to make us feel at home, and Karthik (the Chef), who tries his best to make food as close to your expectation and Naveen and the other boy (sorry I forgot the name) who are always on the heels to serve us, for having made this very normal Ooty (which we do often) really memorable and different.

Room Tip: Have the windows of your room slightly open in the nights as it gets a little warm. Ask for the rear...
