Ooty lake is naturally (and quite conveniently for us) situated right near the centre of the town. The car park is vast which is very helpful. The jetty itself is very crowded and noisy with lots of Indian tour groups pouring out of buses screaming inconsiderately. The boat rides are quite expensive in comparison with others with a charge of Rs405 for an 8-seater boat whether you're going with 2 people or 8 people, which is quite illogical. The boat ride is lovely, it's peaceful on the lake with forests on either side and the toy train going past, you can see trees and gardens on all sides. The ride goes only to one part of the lake and takes 20 minutes. The wind is cool and lovely. Corn on the cob and other foodstuffs are available as well as a grotesque haunted house with a box with blood-covered legs dangling out screaming like someone being tortured, ruining the peace the moment you step back onto the jetty. Toilets are really not very clean, cigarette smoke wafting around in the air. All in all, a wonderful lake. It's just the services that aren't very good.
