“yeh dil maange more...our kids were adamant on extending the stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Answer these questions... if all answers are yes, then yes.. destiny is the destination...
Are you a naturalist? Are you allergic to crowd? Does your kids love farmyard tales?
Do you love cows and horses?
Are you willing to spend extra money for making the day little more adventurous?

Dry lake was a spoiler for us.. but otherwise morning trek, camping, Rodeo, exotic breakfasts, spacious rooms, herbal toiletries, campfire activities, kids craft activities, lovely inner trek which you can do on your own are all pleasant memories of our trip..

Food is overpriced for the reason that they have the monopoly there and they need to procure everything from ooty. But it suits your taste buds.

Maximum fun guaranteed for family with kids.

How I wish the whole earth is like this with abundant nature's blessings?
I wish to write more... but travelers need to breathe in the experience and not biased by the reviews... such a getaway from this fast world will have its own negatives.. but please be a optimist and see what is in store for you in this little earth and don't whine about what was not there..

I am going there in the off season to see what mother nature has to offer at that time...

Room Tip: Rooms closer to play area and less walk to rodeo are suitable for family with children

Dear Guest
Thank you for your feedback and we are absolutely delighted to know that you vacationed at Destiny Farm resort. Our staff at the resort will be thrilled to know that you not only enjoyed the location but also the various activities our resort offered.Regarding the lake being dry - it is due to a very poor monsoon in the nilgiries region. We are looking forward to a much better monsoon this year. Does two trips between six months make you a veteran ? Hmm, I guess. So here’s the voice of experience .

Over time, Destiny has turned out to be a familiar destination. ( And as the languages in the dining room reveal, for those from far and wide as well )

Access : For those driving down , like the marathon runner, please do save your breath. You’ll need the winds beneath the wings for the last stretch of 25 km from Ooty to the Destiny parking lot. For those flying in, the road journey from Coimbatore is a canvas of green and all that you imagined about hill stations. For those taking the bus to Ooty from Bangalore, it takes two hours more than scheduled and when they distribute little plastic bags which serve as barf bags for the curves it would be a good moment to say – let’s not catch the bus again .

Let’s leave that far behind – the stay begins at the parking lot. You are greeted with warmth and this is something you could get used to over your stay. When you get back you might have some adjustment issues with surly domestic help and neighbourhood folk, but that is another story. The Destiny van takes you, well to destiny, kind of like Mr Bond would like it – shaken and stirred, but all excited.

Reception : For those HR folk who keep pondering on how to keep staff motivation at a high, all the time, Destiny is a good lab to watch. You will be greeted, welcomed and made to feel special. There, you are getting used to it and think what a popular person you are, dropping the How to win friends self help book in the nearby bin . Sanjay, you are just so good : )

Rooms : The gods are just and equitable. Familiar with squabbling Indians who would say Do you know who I am , why did you give them the better room …all rooms are at Destiny are born equal. The view is drop dead stunning from any room. Bit of minor thought on dampness in the bathroom, but you spend so much time outside – you didn’t come to stay in the restroom did you ?

Food : For us good folk, holidays are about what did you eat. Not what did you see, only, what did you see at the dining table. The chef keeps you busy. The food is awesome. Keep the days you are in in mind and steadily tick off all that you want to experiment with. Chances are you won’t be disappointed. From the waldorf salad to the brownie it’s a trip all the way. The new menu moves from continental to curd rice, so the techies should be a happy lot too

Things to do : If you’ve been expecting a hotel room and Tata Sky, realign. What makes Destiny a FB favourite is the things you can do and post at FB . ( Network is patchy, so hold on to your need to impress , wi fi is available at the library ) . You can fish. The fish seem to be vegan as they love the atta as bait instead of worms. They bite easily and proud parents can take pictures of their budding anglers . There are treks into the forest and Vishal will explain the unfolding scenery to you . The more adventurous can go through the zipline and other activity, the dairy farm visit, horse riding, the sturdy sheep who munch through grass quicker than you would have wolfed down your brownies. There’s TT, carrom, a foosball which carries some injured players, movies for kids, karaoke for parents who missed their bit on the reality shows, and hey - there’s a SPA too

Overall it scores well with anybody who would like to go back to Mother Nature and leave the PS2 and laptop behind for a while .

Parents with kids – great time guaranteed. Couples – keep clear of the kids who parents have abandoned and you have enough time and space to discover your destiny

A perfect getaway... extremely well maintained...
you need to stay here for atleast 2 nights/ 3 days to get the most of the place.. quite a few things to do around for all age groups including a DJ nite :) Some of the activities are very overpriced (such as tractor rides, lunch by the river etc... )
Food is very good... but extremely overpriced... i guess thats why they never sell all-inclusive plans.. and you cant even go out for a meal for 2 reasons... 1. it will take you more than 30 min to hit the main road and 2. there is nothing around :)

You will want to come back again and you should...

Room Tip: If you are a group of 6-8 (3-4 couples) take the luxury room in block C... little expensive but well...

Destiny farmstay - truly lives upto it's name. deep inside a forest yet you feel very safe. They haven't missed out on anything, the activities, food, rooms, games, books etc - the rooms are nice and spacious, deck with a great view. there is no TV - i missed it though ;) Jokes apart, it takes courage to do that, to put you in the middle of a forest with no idiot box! Gave me a chance to enjoy the beautiful things in life like watching automated milking in their own dairy and pose with their stud! I can go on and on about the food, amazing menu and taste - being a hotelier myself, it is still mysterious to me how they manage it consistently with every dish.

Overall - great work destiny team, way to go! and thank you for a wonderful holiday, my wife is happy and now isn't that something a man wants :P

Room Tip: Luxury rooms are the best - you get your own fireplace

We visited Destiny in December 2012 for a couple of nights and we were a big group. It was fun and the property is well equipped with a lot of activities and interesting stuff for kids and adults alike. Fishing was great fun, horse riding was exciting, the men in our team had a good game of cricket, there was a movie being played for the kids in the afternoon, table tennis was great and the food was very good. Rooms had a very good view and we had a blast.

We heard about this place from a friend of ours and decided to try it out. It is located in Emerald Valley, about 21 km from Ooty towards Avalanche. The property, consisting of 128 acres amongst hills and dales, is located within a forest reserve area. After crossing the small town of Emerald, the driving gets hairy with pot-holed and water-filled roads from recent rains. The resort itself cannot be approached by private vehicles as the road leading to is in forest land. So you park your car at the resort's parking lot, from where you transfer yourself and your belongings to an army truck like contraption, for the final 2km 20 minute bouncy ride to the resort. It was at this point that I got an inkling of what army troops at front lines have to endure if they are dependent on supplies coming through a mud track like this.

Fortunately, one well thought-out aspect is a staffed lounge that is present adjacent to the parking lot for the comfort of visitors with rest rooms, water, telephones to the main facility, and a menu to pre-order your lunch or dinner, while you get driven in and finish up the check-in formalities.

We had booked a luxury room in the main facility, and it was quite large and spacious with a closed balcony with a panoramic view of the adjoining hills. The furniture was old and rustic, but sturdy, and went with the overall theme of a farm and adventure resort. The room, in fact, is spacious enough to accomodate at least 4 extra beds quite comfortably. There was quite a welcoming party when we finally arrived at the resort, welcome drinks were served immediately, and check-in formalities quickly completed.

There are 2 outdoor activities directors on-site and a few activities are included in the room package that includes breakfast for 2. There was trekking, horse riding, fishing by a small pond, artificial and natural rock climbing, ziplining, trammeling, monkey crawling, outdoor camping, etc. It is a paradise for drinking in the outdoors, and kids can participate in several activities as well. There is an audio-visual room where cartoons are screened every afternoon, barbecue with a bonfire on the lawns every night, and a dance floor in the evenings as well. If the day gets rained out, you can always snuggle up in your room with hot drinks and a hot book, or enjoy the spa facilities on offer (at a price, of course).

Destiny is managed by the Little Earth group, and the menu at the restaurant seems to be exactly the same at their properties in Ooty (I stayed in Kings Cliff as well). It severs authentic Indian, Asian, and Continental cuisine.

The housekeeping staff were fast, courteous, and friendly. The rooms were clean and tidy, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Driver accommodation is provided at the main parking lot, and they are normally driven back and forth to the main facility in the army truck for their meals, or they can request it to be served at their accommodation itself. This has some logistical issues as the resort gives preference to their customers and staff for the truck trip, and drivers needs can suffer as a result of this. They need a better system to work this out and provided and ensure that basic amenities for drivers like water/tea/coffee are available at all times along with timely meals.
