Let us start with the positives- The place is quite beautiful - you can see mountains, meadows, lots of greenery and yes even a clean lake nearby.
The food they served was tasty-the buffet menu was not as lavish but decent.. And all their activities like horse riding, fishing, mini-golf etc were decently organised and we had fun. It is just that it was not what we expected for the price we paid and lots of small issues which made you think that the place did not have their act together.
I was disappointed with the place on various issues- For starters, the place costed close to ~RS 7000 per night INR- and having travelled around the world, I felt that the place was over-priced for what it offered.
The rooms are very basic big with single beds (yes no DOUBLE beds here in any room is what I was told), no phones or television in the rooms. Also your cell doesnot work, so pretty much cut off from the world.
All through out their property, cleanliness seems to be an issue. The funny part is that the outdoors are quite clean, it is the indoors that have an issue. Even if you see the main reception area or their activity centre, the carpets etc were covered with dirt. IN our room, the cleanliness of the linens , bedsheets and comfortor was quite questionable- I could see spots on them and it definitely didnot look freshly washed.
Second issue- Big issues with flies. Not that it is not expected in a rural place in India, but again becoz of their charges, one comes to expect that this will be a professionally run clean place. WHich it is not. The place is simply infested with flies-even my room had 4-5 permanent flies as guests..not only that there were 4-5 flies lying dead on the window sill and for some reason the housekeeping guys had not bothered to even remove it.
I ordered some tea and milk and when it arrived, I found a dead bug in the sugar pot..and something in the tea. thankfully I saw it just in time and showed it to the manager who arrived later. Now here is the funny thing- in another place, the management would have been embarassed to the core, but here honestly the manager didnot seem bothered that much.
Throughout my stay, I hated to see the flies in the room, in the restaurant and dreaded to think how their kitchen looked:(. If someone from Destiny is reading this, PLEASE fix this). If you left your cup of tea unattended for 5 min, you could come back and see some flies in your cup..yuck!!
Finally - there are some serious execution and logistic issues at this place.
E.g: I had asked for an extra bed to accomodate an extra adult, which didnot come till late in the evening - that too after reminders and infact an argument with the manager. In a normal hotel, when you ask for an extra bed, the bed is already there when you check in. But not here. Now it is not a big issue that they forgot, but what was suprising is that when I asked the manager about the extra bed, he said that was becoz they are short of staff and they put the beds only after 730PM. This logic didnot make sense because they charge for an extra bed right from 2PM (their check in time) and yet they were telling me that the extra person had no place to sleep till 730 PM. it finally got there, but it was just irritating that one had to even explain such basic things.
Lastly - there also seemed to be an element of carelessness /fraud that we got subjected to. We had asked for food for our driver for the entire stay. While we were checking out, I was given a bill for 6 meals, whileas we had only availed 5 meals. WHen I pointed it out, they just said " ok we will take it out" but no apologies or explanation- that was kind of suprising to me that had I not checked the bill, they would have charged me extra and they didnot think anything of making that mistake.
Anyways small instance but wait it gets worse. During all our stay I had not been in touch with my driver as the parking lot is far away from the actual farm. After checking out, when I finally met my driver and asked if he ate well and got his food on time etc (since this place is in the middle of nowhere, so it was kind of our responsibility too), he told me that except for 2 meals, he never got anything???
Understandably he was upset that we took hiim to a place where he got stranded with no facilities to eat. Not only that he said that the other drivers also had the same plight and since the parking lot is in the middle of nowhere they all pooled together and had to drive down 4-5 Kms together every time to find something to eat.
Upset by this cheating, I called Destiny farms from the parking lot asking how/why that happened and how come they charged me and their response was "sorry we will refund the money". How simple!!.
No concern or apologies for what they had done. They didnot seem to be concerned at all on how this could happen or the inconvenience that it had caused to their customers. It was more like - oh we didnot deliver, here you take the money..period.
Anyways- so summary, great potential, but someone please clean up the mess.
