“Good Natural beauty but watch out for flies, food quality and your bill.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

Let us start with the positives- The place is quite beautiful - you can see mountains, meadows, lots of greenery and yes even a clean lake nearby.

The food they served was tasty-the buffet menu was not as lavish but decent.. And all their activities like horse riding, fishing, mini-golf etc were decently organised and we had fun. It is just that it was not what we expected for the price we paid and lots of small issues which made you think that the place did not have their act together.

I was disappointed with the place on various issues- For starters, the place costed close to ~RS 7000 per night INR- and having travelled around the world, I felt that the place was over-priced for what it offered.

The rooms are very basic big with single beds (yes no DOUBLE beds here in any room is what I was told), no phones or television in the rooms. Also your cell doesnot work, so pretty much cut off from the world.

All through out their property, cleanliness seems to be an issue. The funny part is that the outdoors are quite clean, it is the indoors that have an issue. Even if you see the main reception area or their activity centre, the carpets etc were covered with dirt. IN our room, the cleanliness of the linens , bedsheets and comfortor was quite questionable- I could see spots on them and it definitely didnot look freshly washed.

Second issue- Big issues with flies. Not that it is not expected in a rural place in India, but again becoz of their charges, one comes to expect that this will be a professionally run clean place. WHich it is not. The place is simply infested with flies-even my room had 4-5 permanent flies as guests..not only that there were 4-5 flies lying dead on the window sill and for some reason the housekeeping guys had not bothered to even remove it.

I ordered some tea and milk and when it arrived, I found a dead bug in the sugar pot..and something in the tea. thankfully I saw it just in time and showed it to the manager who arrived later. Now here is the funny thing- in another place, the management would have been embarassed to the core, but here honestly the manager didnot seem bothered that much.

Throughout my stay, I hated to see the flies in the room, in the restaurant and dreaded to think how their kitchen looked:(. If someone from Destiny is reading this, PLEASE fix this). If you left your cup of tea unattended for 5 min, you could come back and see some flies in your cup..yuck!!

Finally - there are some serious execution and logistic issues at this place.

E.g: I had asked for an extra bed to accomodate an extra adult, which didnot come till late in the evening - that too after reminders and infact an argument with the manager. In a normal hotel, when you ask for an extra bed, the bed is already there when you check in. But not here. Now it is not a big issue that they forgot, but what was suprising is that when I asked the manager about the extra bed, he said that was becoz they are short of staff and they put the beds only after 730PM. This logic didnot make sense because they charge for an extra bed right from 2PM (their check in time) and yet they were telling me that the extra person had no place to sleep till 730 PM. it finally got there, but it was just irritating that one had to even explain such basic things.

Lastly - there also seemed to be an element of carelessness /fraud that we got subjected to. We had asked for food for our driver for the entire stay. While we were checking out, I was given a bill for 6 meals, whileas we had only availed 5 meals. WHen I pointed it out, they just said " ok we will take it out" but no apologies or explanation- that was kind of suprising to me that had I not checked the bill, they would have charged me extra and they didnot think anything of making that mistake.

Anyways small instance but wait it gets worse. During all our stay I had not been in touch with my driver as the parking lot is far away from the actual farm. After checking out, when I finally met my driver and asked if he ate well and got his food on time etc (since this place is in the middle of nowhere, so it was kind of our responsibility too), he told me that except for 2 meals, he never got anything???

Understandably he was upset that we took hiim to a place where he got stranded with no facilities to eat. Not only that he said that the other drivers also had the same plight and since the parking lot is in the middle of nowhere they all pooled together and had to drive down 4-5 Kms together every time to find something to eat.

Upset by this cheating, I called Destiny farms from the parking lot asking how/why that happened and how come they charged me and their response was "sorry we will refund the money". How simple!!.

No concern or apologies for what they had done. They didnot seem to be concerned at all on how this could happen or the inconvenience that it had caused to their customers. It was more like - oh we didnot deliver, here you take the money..period.

Anyways- so summary, great potential, but someone please clean up the mess.

The beautiful view that I saw in the snaps that got me to this place is not what I saw in end of May. The reason .. there is NO water in the lake! Summer in Tamilnadu seems to drain the lake where most the water seems to be released through the dam. So, wherever you see water in the snaps, you will find only brown patches. This was the first and biggest disappointment with this place. Well without the lake, the view is just ordinary. So much so that you will LOVE the Ooty lake!

Second disappointment was with the so called "Deluxe" room. I found it just a very "Basic" room. If it rains, a lot of water enters the front area of your room which makes things really messy. Would have appreciated if some of the money spend on building a good looking exterior/common area would have gone to make a more comfortable interior. If nothing else, it makes perfect sense to atleast have a heater in this room. It gets really cold in the nights and all you get is a pair of hot water bags to warm yourself up. At the room rates, you expect a warmer, brighter and more comfortable room.

Third disappointment was with the food bill. Only breakfast is complementary. The chef is pretty good and knows his Chinese, Continental and Indian very well. But, based on the food bill, looks like this one chef is a very nicely paid chef. And what hurts more is that you do not have any other option thanks to the last horrible mile of the road.

The restaurant and activity staff is pretty cheerful and helpful.

All in all, if the view is one of the things that makes this place different then May/June are just not the months to be here. And if a dry lake is what you see as the first thing after a REALLY creaky, shaky, bumpy truck ride which brings you here, it is not just worth it.

This is unarguably, one of the best Farmstay and overall leisure stay in India....
Now that we have this determined, lets review: The Farmstay is obviously built on a well-established concept taken from the West, that is themed stays, the theme in this case being an actual, working Farm. So it comes with all the Farmstay features, which are all good btw, that is Horse Riding, visit to the small ranch-like place, visit to the Farms, fishing, ponds, nightly bonfires etc. This is clubbed with other leisure activities like a recreational room with TT, Foosball etc. Things which really take the cake are the slight push for some adventure activities like a tough-ish trek led by a knowledgeable guide, the Zip-line set-up etc...By exploring all these you will have had a good time...But now onto the things which really take the cake, and first-off is the absolutely breath-taking mountain and lake-views....Fantastic is an understatement here....The beautiful Nilgiris and the lakes, as viewed from your rooms or when viewed on your treks are simply mind-blowingly beautiful....Picture perfect and high-contrast greens against the deep blues of the lakes and the sky....Then, within Destiny, you have the awesome living room with its cozy fireplace and couch+ rug setting....The food we had was also above average and if you go for a Buffet you can eat to your heart's content....The staff is courteous and dont interfere with your routine unnecessarily...There are nice touches all around, like the room names (named after Wild Western legends), that group of well-trained and lively ducks, the awesome bumpy ride in the truck which takes from the place you park your cars to the actual cottages and so on....For the price, this place a must check-out at least once....This reviewer was mighty impressed with the place (as you can make out from the review)...

We checked in on the 18th and 19th of April, with two young children, its a beautiful place, its location is out of the world ,over looking the valley, could
see it straight lying down from our bed,we stayed in the luxury rooms, rooms are good ,lot of activities for children ,the children had a blast, our treck with the guide Mr IKSA was wonderful,at 7:45 am,wore our gum boots provided by the hotel and were off for the treck ,the places we saw during our treck were beautiful,we had a good time, rock climbing .zipping ,fishing ,horse riding, its packed with activities, the food was very good, except for the cost. For Rs 7000 plus per day i think all meals should have been included. On the whole a great place, would pay a visit in june with a couple of friends.

The location is exotic... its just wonderful to be there... but....

We reached there in the night and our vehicle wasnt there to take us to the farm.. we had made 7 calls in last 3 hours and were assured of vehicle being there... We were tired and no one cared. When vehicle cam, it broke down. It was dark and raining. No one from hotel bothered to check or make alternate arrangements.

When we finally reached resort, the manager was just dunb struck. No apologies or broaching of topic next day... no thanks for bearing with us... It was pitch dark, raining and no one cared for us or was tracking our safety... Instead while waiting on phone to talk to their manager, we could overhear the receptionists laughing about our plight... Obviously they deny it when you meet them but we are not fools. And the manager had no character to broach the topic next day or offer a drink or anything...Instead, the booking office it seems blamed us.. i shared emails with manager but hes of no use too.. No one takes responsibility there... Everyone wants evidence and they dont believe what my wife/ myself spoke on phone.

We informed our checkout time a day earlier as is required.. and on day of check out we went for breakfast and before starting breakfast i asked for the bill... when i came back at 8.30am (in 30 mins) the bill was not yet ready... they were really struggling. Reason - Too many check outs.... They knew that 80% of folks were from Bangalore but didnt plan ahead (breakfast is free so should be easy)... And when they finally prepared invoice, they were unaware of booking amount i had transferred... GOSH.... Thankfully i could retrieve mail on my phone... and all in front of manager. No proactiveness from manager at all... The worst planning ever done. And finally we find out that their vehicle to parking area doesnt leave till 9.15am... and many families including ours had told them that we wanted to leave at 8.30am.. and they kept saying fine... ATROCIOUS RECEPTION staff with HORRIBLE MANAGER.

Now the good things... the place is awesome... the folks managing the activity like Iskha werefabulous... they kept you engaged, always welcoming, smile on faces... just awesome people...

Food was good.... though like a 3 star pricing.. does pinch you... the staff and service was good though...

Also, when we reached we were informed of no liquor policy. So carry your own booze... And never reach there after 4pm.

We selected destiny for our In- laws Wedding Anniversary,We ready all the review about this place,Made a few calls and we hit road to avalanche. As they mention the ride is terrible from the First stop point to destiny. The truck ride is not for Seniors & people having back problem Map was just super.after the ride we just forgot everything .
We were greeted by a smile.warm Hospitality.Food was good But expensive. The Chef needs to be complimented.
The resort was full with people.the restaurant service is little slow during busy time. But the staff keep smiling. The best part was the Manager arranged a cake,.the staff set up the glass table at night near the kids play place,it was a surprise for us.A very Romantic Night

Rooms were clean& spacious,We were in a block a few meters away from the restaurant.Evening service can be improved by arranging some bathroom slippers & Flowers,Lights in rooms need to be improved.Lots of construction happening.Surely a disturbance.Hope they maintain its beauty,
The games staff took for a night walk,Very thrilling,Adventures. They serve a soup in the deep woods .We left the kids behind for this walk.Highly recommended for couples.
We could not enjoy horse riding cause of rain.
But Overall we loved the stay,Courteous staff,Excellent food what else we want on a vacation.
