I made the mistake of booking a king suite for myself and a friend and it turned out to be a honeymoon suite. They do not do twin beds but we were able to change to a 'family room' (2 double beds). Staff on reception were very helpful but the same cannot be said of the restaurant. They were rude and unhelpful. Not just to us as westerners... they were just as rude to Indian guests! Tables were not cleaned, plates of toast were thrust at you whether you wanted them or not (not that there was much choice...). Not a pleasant experience. The evening restaurant on the roof was a bit better for food but service still offhand. We chose this hotel to be close to the temples (15 mins walk) and we did have earplugs which you definitely need. Madurai is dirty and deafening. Oh yes and there's only hot water from 5am to 9am.
