Second stay in this hotel after an interval of more than a month came as a dampener. Things have not gone bad , but attention to some finer details was required. Having praised this hotel as the most elegant hospitality structure in the temple city , one expected the best in all subsequent visits. Checked in and got the same deluxe room (#402) where I had stayed earlier. The comfort of a well laid out room was quite delightful . But still found following shortcomings.
The window had an excellent view of the outside greenery ; but a floor to ceiling glass- window would have been more desirable. This window covered only the upper portion , from above 4 feet or so.
Most of the channels available in the television were South Indian Channels . For English news , I had the limited option of Headlines Today and NDTV. For Hindi news , none. There were few English movie channels and perhaps StarPlus and Sony. All other available channels , more than 50 or so; were in Tamil or other southern languages. It was quite an ordeal to go on channel surfing to locate the odd non-south channel. Pictures were snowy in most channels.
The profile of the hotel would have been enhanced by a few fringe facilities like a pair of slippers and a bath robe in the room. I found an iron board perched inside a cupboard , which I think is a recent addition.
Major disappointment during this stay was waiting at the lobby level restaurant 'Orchid'. The complimentary breakfast coupon came stapled to the morning newspaper which was supplied to the room. The coupon showed the breakfast time as 7 AM to 10 AM. I entered the restaurant at 7.10 AM and found a couple of foreign guests having their breakfast. I picked my plate and headed towards the idly/Vada counters only to find that these items had not yet arrived although the tiny name boards were displayed on the counters announcing their availability. I had no interest in cereals and toast , which were available. The lone attendant in the restaurant asserted that breakfast was ready. When specifically asked about the missing items , he conceded that only those two were not available at the moment and would arrive in 5 minutes. I was in a hurry , so I didnot wait . The complimentary breakfast coupon remained unused . Maybe a delay of fifteen minutes for those two precious items ought to be tolerated , but most local guests would prefer to break their fast only with these dishes. No regret or apology was expressed although I was politely asked to wait for a few minutes .
However these aberrations should not create an impression that the hotel lacks good service.
