“Visit only if you have time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Unless you have strong belief in this temple and deity, it need not be on must visit list for Madurai.

Core of the temple is carved out from rock and though the temple is beautiful, it's not an exceptional sight. And from that perspective, it's an average temple and therefore not a must visit.

It's around 7 km from Periyar bus stand and while we traveled by auto-rickshaw (Rs 120-140, one way), bus no. 48 is also available from Periyar bus stand which drops just 500m from the temple.

“Great place to go.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Would have been happy if I could have gone to the top of the hill. Could not as I was escorting not so strong or physically capable and was advised not to try the steep climb. Otherwise it was good and the special darshan made things really easy.

“Arupadai Veedu - First House of Lord Muruga”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

This Tiruparankundram is the first house of lord muruga it is located in Madurai (South Madurai) near by Thiagarajar College of Engineering. Avoid visiting this temple on Tuesday/Karthikai will be flooded with devotees.
Don't miss to go to Pazhamudhircholai (Sixth house of lord muruga) just located 25 km far from Tiruparamkundram. You will really like Pazhamudhircholai located at Azhagar kovil hills.

“Spiritual experience. Very Peaceful !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

One of the six abode's of Lord Murugan, Thiruparankundram is the only one where Lord Murugan is present with his both wives. The hill is also called "Southern Himalaya" where the gods assemble. There is also legend that this is the place where Sun and Moon take a rest. Temple is in a rock cut cave on the foothill of the hill. A blissfully divine experience. Do not forget to try 'Paal Paniaram' at the main street prepared live by local homemakers in the evenings. :)
