“A must ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Absolute must toy train ride from Metupalayam to Coonoor. It is simply a fantastic journey. The scenery is spectacular, and the railway itself, quaint, with a steam engine still being used for haulage. Cannot miss this for the world.

“Worth a ride!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I live in coonoor and think that the ride is worth try. It takes a little longer than the bus but is quite scenic and the bridges and tunnels add to the splendor. Tip: Book the general ticket, 1st class is just general with extra cushions

“Needs more maintenance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

The view throughout the trip had been scenic. The train being a heritage needs more maintenance. The tickets were classified as first class (Rs. 85) and second class (Rs 5). Though the price difference is huge, there is little or no much differences in the service provided. Except for the brown coloured cushioned seats in first class, I don't have an idea why it costs 80 bucks more than the 2nd class. You can always go for the 5 Rs ticket and avoid the huge queue and hype for first class :) Good experience anyways!

“Heritage Train, Ooty to Connoor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Disaster from the word go. The Ooty train station was chaotic. It is a free for all and the railway authorities were mere spectators. We (4 adults and 4 children) had first class reserved seats and were shoved into a cabin (capacity of 8) which already had 8 people sitting.

“The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is fabulous!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

The heritage ride is fun once it starts, though the ticketing is shady and can cause quite a heartburn with all the bureaucracy. Loved the steam locomotive with the hissing pistons and the amazing rack-and-pinion system. Kids will love the whistling of the train especially as it climbs through the tea gardens into Coonoor. Cleanliness on the route should be enforced strictly.
