“Heritage - maybe to much heritage?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

There is nothing particular, which is bad in this place. You have beautiful views on the lake, people are friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious and clean but at the end: you have the feeling being an item in a dusty museum.

While we've been staying, in the pre-season of early october 2013, we've been almost the only guests in the entire place, which gave us even more the feeling of being forgotten in that place.

If you stay in Udaipur - add some extra dollar and choose the Udaivillas....

Very well kept heritage hotel. You get the feeling of royalty. The view of the lake just out of the window was really awesome.Service quality was also excellent. Only during night time, the front desk was almost empty.
Overall a lifetime royal experience!

Room Tip: Rooms facing lakeside are great !

The old palace is very beautiful and the view is fabulous - out over the lake and overlooking the 3 island palaces. The staff are very helpful. I'm getting worried that everywhere we go in India, despite booking twin rooms, as a group of ladies travelling together, we are given rooms with queen beds. Do they really think we want to sleep in the same bed when we have booked a twin? They did find us comfortable twin rooms but at the other end of the hotel. Unfortunately the air conditioning struggled.
The Sunset Resturant has a beautiful ambience and is well worth a visit.

This was my first visit to Udaipur and I was a bit disappointed not seeing a Hilton hotel here. I have been told that a new Hilton is expected to come up shortly. Our group stayed at the Fateh Prakash hotel and it was the most amazing experience yet. We nearly bumped into the King himself, who is every bit of a regal dignitary as his hotels.
The rooms are beautifully appointed and the service is amazing. All in all a royal experience to remember.

It was a pleasure staying at the Fateh Prakash Palace and experience the Royal Hospitality. Right from the moment we entered, to the moment we left, we were given very special treatment by the entire hotel crew. Our lake facing luxurious rooms almost made our vacation a bliss. Thanks to His Highness Shri Arvind Singhji for inviting us to the palace to see and experience his royal galore. Over the top the sightseeing tours to Jalmandir, Shiv Niwas Palace and the museum brought us interesting insights on the rich historical lineage of Mewar and its exceptional architecture and beautiful designs.

We had excellent Lal Maas at Shiv Niwas Palace and a palette of delicious dishes and kebabs couple of times at the open terrace restaurant which is worth mentioning.Over all experience excellent, recommended for those who intent to go for a holiday full of luxury, elegance and style.

It was very neat to stay in the city palace however I don't know if my friends and I ever felt truly secure in the location. Doors are shut by padlock and that's it. Would have been nicer if there were keyed doors. On the inside your only locking mechanism is a deadbolt which is quite secure - but then someone could lock you in from the outside! The restaurant was subpar and not well priced. Go down the street to the Rooftop Terrace instead. In all, the staff was excellent, the security seemed responsible and the location was great but the property itself is old. It appears that there are renovations in progress so perhaps there are good things to come!

Room Tip: Stay on the higher levels. The lower levels are too close to the water and feel unsafe.

A Super place to stay...Dovecote Rooms have a spectacular view of the Lake Pichola and its environs...Superb Indian food, great service and a slice of royal grandeur at a fair price.... Food on offer is a bit limited but that's a small irritant. Lake is full and the climate was lovely...forget any hill station...Go to Udaipur in the rains

Room Tip: Ask for rooms which don't ha ve trees obstructing the view
