Owner description: Pichola Lake is one of the most beautiful and picturesque lakes of Rajasthan, India. Located in the heart of the city, Pichola Lake is the oldest and one of the largest lakes of Udaipur. Pichola Lake is enveloped by lofty Palaces, temples, bathing ghats and elevated hills on all its sides. In the southern part of this lake, there is a hill that is known as Machhala Magra and one can see glimpse of Eklinggarh Fort from here. The City Palace of Udaipur broadens along the eastern banks of this lake. Built by Jagat Singh, Mohan Mandir is situated in the north-east corner of Lake Pichola. Lake Pichola comprises several islands that accompany the calm waters of the lake. The world-renowned Lake Palace is perfectly located on the Jag Island of this tranquil lake. Even the Jag Mandir, another destination of tourists, is located on an island of this lake. Above all, a trip to Pichola Lake would be incomplete with a boat ride. The pristine blue waters of the lake leave a soothing impact on the spectator. At the time sun-set, a boat ride in this lake is sufficient to enthrall anyone.

“Lake of the Palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Lake Pichola is the house of the famous lake palace in Udaipur, Its built in the the lake. There are others structures built in the center of the lake as well which includes a mosque as well. You can hire a pedal boat to see around the lake. The place around the lake is congested and can get a little evercrowded with the tourist buses coming in. Overall, its a nice place to see and click photos :)

“Lovely lake but spoilt by the rubbish floating in it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

From the hotel rooftops the lake and the palace hotel set in the centre of it look very attractive. I remember how beautiful it looked in the James Bond movie Octopuss(y). My wife and I took a sunset cruise on the lake; the buildings around the lake and the sunset were stunning but we were less than impressed with the vast quantities of plastic rubbish floating about in the lake and lying heaped up on the shoreline.

“Beautiful but needs maintenance”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

No one who goes to Udaipur wont spend their time near Lake Pichola, but the place needs cleaning and maintenance.
If possible, stay near the lake but chose the view carefully

“Take a boat trip in the late afternoon.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

A boat trip on Lake Pichola is well worth doing, particularly in the late afternoon as the sun begins to set. The stone facade of the Palace buildings turns to a magical golden cream colour and is very memorable. We booked a 1 hour boat trip through our hotel and the boat operator was very informative and took his time to point out the important buildings and other points of interest. It was also a very good way of seeing the variety of birds that frequent the lake.
