“The Perfect Place to Wind Down”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2009

We were glad that we had stayed in the cottage which was overlooking the beautiful Ranthambhore countryside. We enjoyed our honeymoon stay there. Coming from a big and busy city, I had to take a while to get used to the silence and try to enjoy doing nothing. It was the perfect place to wind down, read a book and connected with the nature.

I enjoyed having the outdoor bath after sunset when it was just getting cool. Shame the hot water wasn't that hot though. We were truly pampered by the great service and the amazing and delicious wholesome meals we had during our stay. All ingredients were home grown and you won't be disappointed for not eating any meat in here.

Before dinner we joined other guests around the bonfire for drinks. It got very cold after sunset so everyone was rugged up. We had a chat to a mother and daughter from Manchester and shared tiger stories.

Dinner was a buffet of Indian food. Various vegetable curries accompanied by yummy pickles, naans and poppadoms. Go easy on the beans though!

I'd like to thank the owner Usha and her staff to make our trip memorable.

I was lucky enough to be surprised by my partner, was a beautiful stay we had. Exquisite service, beautiful landscape and just the peace we needed after Delhi, Varanasi and Agra back to back. We were lucky to see a tiger on our only Safari and spent the rest of our two days enjoying the camp and surrounding areas, a real romantic getaway. Our favourite stay during the whole trip around India, it would be a dream to return.

Stayed in a cottage. Beautiful views over the countryside to the hills inside Ranthambore National Park. Lovely terrace outside and also an outside bath, candle-lit after dark. Handy for safari trips inside the Park as it's the nearest hotel to the Park and therefore the latest for pick-up, meaning a slightly longer lie-in, and the first for the drop-off, meaning slightly less time to breakfast! Great food. The bar is quite expensive and the overall cost is high.

Khem Villas was an absolute delight. We stayed in a luxury cottage. The cottage itself was fabulous with a draped fabric ceiling and exquisite block print bedding. But the most special part was a private enclosed lounging area with a giant marble tub, two lounge chairs, and niches in the walls filled with candles and flowers.

Khem Villas is for some reason not listed as a hotel, but it has all of the amenities of a hotel including a 24 hour desk and all of the other amenities of a luxury hotel. The owner, Usha, is extremely hospitable, helpful and welcoming.

While at Khem Villas, we went on five safaris and saw tigers three times, which was a tremendous thrill. We also went on a shopping trip to the nearby women's cooperatives, which offered beautiful fabrics, wall hangings, and art.

Khem Villas provides three meals a day, all of which are delicious and healthy. Lunch is fusion food and dinner is delicious Indian food.

The staff is exceptionally customer service oriented and always there to help. When you return from a trip outside the compound, they are waiting for you with cold towels and cold drinks - the height of indulgence.

I travelled with a friend. We were planning on staying at The Oberoi Vanyavilas, which is extremely expensive. When we read the reviews for Khem Villas, which was very reasonable in comparison, we decided to book there instead. Khem Villas offers, in my opinion, all of the luxury and comfort any traveller could hope for. I cannot recommend it highly enough. By all means, if you are going anywhere near that part of India, put Ranthambore on your itinerary and stay at Khem Villas!

We loved this hotel. Im so glad we didnt stay in the oberoi or the aman - which we were struggling to choose between. Even if they charged the same rates as the aman (over 5 times more) I would still definatly pay up and stay here.

The food was exceptional. Lots of things I would never have chosen if presented with a choice - but each and every one was delicious even my husband, who would never choose vegetarian food - was completely blown away. It was certainly the best foor we ate in India and amongst the best weve ever eaten.

We stayed in a cottage and loved it. I used the spa for a herbal facial - which was honestly the best & most relaxing Ive ever had and it cost.... £12.00 ! (every other hotel in Inida we stayed in charged over £100). We also had a load of laundry done (apprx 6 items) for the same price it cost of for one top to be laundered in the next hotel.

The game reserve was fascinating and beautiful with lots to see beside the tigers although we were lucky enough to see them too.

Best part was not the gorgeous countryside, the animals, the much needed break from temples and forts, the incredible food, the perfect setting, accomodation, and staff - but the inspiring nature of the wonderful couple who have created this place - it is the best of hotels and built on the best of principles.

Stay for at least 2 nights and if you can stay for three. You wont regret it.

We really wanted to see tigers. This hotel was recommended to us and after reading the trip advisor reviews - decided to stretch the budget and stay here for 3 nights. Khem Villas have introduced a new level of accomodation and service that we did not see anywhere else. Very well run - creating a very relaxing environment where you have space to relax and enjoy your holiday. With hands on management you are well looked after - yet have sufficient personal space. My only regret is that I did not have enough time her to relax in this environment! As other people have commented on - if you can book the cottages - do - it gives you a totally unique experience. Khem villas is an experience not to be missed ! We had booked 5 tiger safaris - and saw tigers on 2 trips - which was stunning. The whole tiger safari experience is a cultural experience as well! We did not have time to go to the fort - having booked safaris every morning and afternoon - would suggest 1 sot for the fort . In addition really hppy we booked the jeeps in advance.

My stay at Khem Villas was incredible. We stayed in one of the tents which was stylishly and comfortably decorated. The food was some of the best we had in India, they grow thier produce on site so we were finally able to eat some fresh food.

Usha was an incredibly gracious host. Due to itinerary changes, we missed our first safari in the evening. We asked about rescheduling it for our last morning and she said that she'd try but no promises. The jeep that day would only go out with 6 people, since only four signed up she sent two members of our staff with us so we could go. We were glad she did, we had the best tiger sighting (about 10 feet away) that day.

One thing to know about Khem Villas is that they want a large portion of your bill (around half about 350 in my case) in cash. I forgot about this and it lead to an awkward situation. My advice to the hotel would be to either charge a credit card surcharge, or have an ATM on site.
