“Avoidable! Please stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

I think this is the property the Taj Group forgot exists. It is not a Taj Property but a forest guest house (in fact a forest guest house would probably be better) in the guise of a Taj property.
Now where do I start ? Everything that can be wrong in a hotel is wrong with this place .......... the food, level of hygiene, service EVERYTHING.
Some examples ........... 1) the guard who is responsible for security of the property brings tea to the room in a golf cart! And he does not knock, barges in, dumps the tray on the table and leaves. 2) A lady who was cleaning the courtyard (not in Taj uniform but a saree) was immediately seen making parathas outside. And I can bet she did not wash her hands. 3) The food was worse than a roadside restaurant and we fell ill after eating it 4) The pool was filthy ... the changing room toilet was used and not flushed and there were diapers in the trash bin which were probably lying there for many days and the whole place was stinking. 5) Water was served in pearl-pet bottles !!!!! 6) There were so many lizards in the room and all kinds of insects. I wonder why they cant do anything about pest control 7) Te sheets were stained and dirty and were clearly not fresh when we checked in. 8) The bathroom floor was filthy and had never been scrubbed.

So folks please please please stay away from this property ! Not worth the money they charge and you will only leave the placed cheated and stressed out.

In Sawai Madhopur, the only attraction is Ranthambore and the only focus is Safari and repeat Safari till the Tiger sighting is done again. With such a clear focus, the property takes a back seat. But this particular property is not only great (comfortable rooms, huge and well maintained lawns, good food) but is also inviting. The hotel staff go beyond their skin to make your vacations memorable by sharing anecdotes with the guests. Professionals like Unni (Operations Manager) are an asset for any Organization who go the extra mile to make guests comfortable

Room Tip: All the rooms are good. With a focus on Safari what you really require at the end of the day is comf...

The grounds of this hotel are stunning and you can see some lovely birds during your stay. Unfortunately our stay was not a pleasant one. We arrived at gone three o'clock to be told our room wasn't ready. When we were shown to it there were pubic hairs in the bath. I complained to our tour guide who arranged for it to be re-cleaned! Returning from a jeep safari nearly four hours later the cleaner was still in the room and the pubic hairs were still in the bath!!The following day they changed our room giving us a larger one. I didn't want a larger room I wanted a clean room! This one had pubic hairs all around the toilet! As others have said the food is also very average. The duty manager was very pleasant and sympathetic but I'm sorry I can't recommend this hotel

the place is great. time stops by and if you have got a suite in the rear side of the lodge, it has great tree view and some of them even have a private courtyard at the back. happened to stay in both of them and along with the service its a great place. even better if you spotted a tiger in one of your safaris. the food is a downer though. the choice and taste, both leave a lot to desire and that the repeat travellers to explore some other place. the quality of the breakfast is even poorer. the service is great and the staff courteous and the place is cozy.

Room Tip: the suites at the rear side are good.

Stayed at Vivanta with my family for 3 nights and we had booked 2 suites with a sit out attached to the rooms. Overall our stay was extremely comfortable and enjoyable but I am giving it a 4 star instead of 5 only coz of the food.

Service - The best factor about the hotel. The quality of service reflected TAJ throughout. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Mr. Unnikrishnan and his team made sure our stay was special. Any complaints or problems we had were attended to very well. It was a delight to talk to them about our safari experience every day.

Food - Can be improved a lot as it didn't reflect the quality you would expect from a TAJ hotel. The staff was very open to suggestions on this front and they were willing to prepare special meals on request.

Rooms - Our suite was nice and well equipped. The sit out area was also spacious but unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the space since it wasn't very well maintained (surrounded by tall trees so lot of fallen leaves and dust). Though I am sure the staff would have gladly cleaned it had we pointed it out to them. But perhaps some sort of a cover for the area would be nice when the weather gets better as well. Also, being close to a forest there were a lot of lizards but measures should be taken so that the lizards can't enter the rooms.

Room Tip: We chose the deluxe suites with a sit out but if you are going in summers you would rather not have...

Felt like we stepped back in time at this lodge, once a hunting lodge and now a lovely hotel. Rooms around a green lawn, plenty of green outdoor spaces, good food and friendly service. It's not luxurious by some standards, but it was a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of travel in India. Learned much of the history of the area (some good, some not) and appreciated the proximity to the park for our safari (yes, we saw a tiger!). The pool is small but tucked away surrounded by trees full of monkeys. Overall a great stay.

Stayed at this lovely hotel for two nights in mid-April as part of a GRJ “golden triangle tour”.

As mentioned by other reviewers the rooms are in blocks surrounding the main building, which houses the dining room, bar, lounges and a snooker/pool room. Our room (No.4) was very large , the strange thing was that the wardrobe was in the massive bathroom (see picture) apart from that , it was very clean with a comfortable bed and sofa, with good but slightly noisy air conditioning, a mini bar, tea/coffee and kettle, and bottles of water in the room that were complimentary. Also a plug in mosquito repellent.

As part of our package all meals were included, the food was of a very good standard and buffet style, we had the best dining experience of our trip here, on the Saturday night we dined outside with the rest of the guests, there were ladies cooking fresh naan`s and other speciality breads alongside the buffet, a nice experience.

The location is ideal for the Ranthambore national park which we visited for the early morning and afternoon safaris, the hotel is geared up for guests visiting the park, having breakfast ready after the safaris in the morning and hot drinks and biscuits before.

If you fancy mixing with the locals and would like to buy some snacks and beer, have a walk along the road straight up from the hotel entrance within a 5 minute walk there is a mini market on the right and my favourite, a beer and “English” wine shop on the left, not that they had much wine, make sure they do not add a few rupees onto the price of the beer though.

Overall a very good hotel with lovely grounds, we found the service and staff also very good and would be happy to stay here again and more than happy to recommend it to others. There are some good photos on the hotels web site. Oh yes, a bit I nearly forgot, be prepared for the occasional power cut !
