We reserved two nights over the 4th of July in a delux suite in the hotel. We were given room 401. First thing I noticed was that room was hot. There was no AC only two oscillating fans. Our hope was that it would cool down at night. Room has a private patio but it was covered with what look like rodent droppings. Bathroom had a leaky toilet. We opened both patio doors and set up the two oscillating fans outside each door and went to dinner.
By evening it was cool outside but still warm in the room despite open patio doors and fans. Moreover as soon as the sun set, we had a bat airport over the patio - all night long the bats were diving and swooping over the patio and around the tree just outside the patio to the left. I know this because I could not sleep as it was too hot.

We ended up checking out the next morning due to all of this - we got a refund for the night we did not stay and 20% off the first night. Next we visit AF we will not stay at the hotel. We've stayed there a number of times but this time was the worst.

They did a big renovation - well really new furniture, some paint, and a snazzy canopy outside. But they are still missing some basic things like air conditioning, esp on higher floors, and of course - the bats!

There are some lovely new condo properties - I would suggest looking at these if you are thinking about staying in Angelfire.

This was our first time to visit Angel Fire....My husband and his brother, myself and my sister-in-law...On our way we were worried about no snow..But..when we got there the place was amazing....Gorgeous white stuff everywhere...We took over 450 pictures....The scenery was just beautiful....We rented ski equipment and everyone was so helpful at the rental....My husband took the ski lessons..It really helped a lot...I can't say how unbelievable it was to experience this trip....We had no problems with anyone at the resort...Everyone was so much help to us....We ate at the Sunset Grill almost everyday for lunch...The staff was very attentive to our needs..Anyone planing on a ski vacation should check this place out...We rented snow mobiles from Angel Fire Excursions and had a blast....I just can't say enough about what a wonderful trip this was for us..

I had a few problems with the resort, but nothing that would keep me from staying there again. The rooms are quite spacious, have a frig & balcony. The bathroom was average, although it was a wonder that I was able to get my makeup on straight, the lighting was BAD... Other that that, it was OK and I would stay there again... HOWEVER, I will never rent my skis or boots from the rental shop at the resort. The first day my teenage son (Who has not quite got the hang of common sense) took his lift ticket off his jacket and put it in his pocket, where he promptly lost it. When I went to the rental shop, there was a sign stating they DO NOT replace lost lift tickets. Fair enough, but I thought I would give it the 'ol college try. After a pleasant conversation with the manager, and nicely being told no, they will not replace it, I resigned that we will have to buy another ticket. My husband however, strolls in, pleads our case, and the answer was "Yes Mr. Gibson, right away!" OK, so by this point, I was MILDLY annoyed. The next day my family hit the slopes before I did due to the fact it took me twice as long to get ready (refer to the poor lighting portion of this review). When I get down to the rental place to pick up my ski boots from the night before (they were in box 80), the boots were no where to be found. No biggie... just get me another pair right? Oh, no Ms. Gibson, you will have to RENT another pair. I said "But I didn't lose the boots." And the response was "Well I didn't lose your boots either!" I was not about to rent another pair of boots, and was way past MIDLY annoyed. I called my dear husband who had just gotten off the Chili Express, only to ask him to ski down and help me get my boots. So he did, walked right into the rental shop, told them they had lost my boots and I will need another pair... and guess what? You got it "Yes, Mr. Gibson, anything you want!" I was made to feel helpless, stupid and small. I refuse to become rude with people, it gets you know where, but apparently, the Ski Rental shop at Angel Fire Resort has no problem being rude... especially to WOMEN...

Angel Fire to ski? Go to Taos

Spent the last week of March "slope side" at AF with my fiancé and kids. Angel Fire is a sleepy town with OK skiing. This "resort" hotel is in dire need of an upgrade. There were large signs in the lobby advertising some great new upgrade construction in progress......we didn't see anything.
Skied the first day at AF, the conditions were good and the crowds were small. The next day we did a day trip to Taos Ski Valley to hit those slopes.......never went back to ski at AF. Had I not pre-paid for the "resort" hotel at AF, I would have checked out and grabbed ANY hotel in Taos.
The restaurants were pitiful. I even endured burnt spaghetti (not overcooked - burnt) at one local Italian diner. The only two decent restaurants were the Roasted Clove (Pricey but good food) and Sunset Grill (next to the Chili express lift).
I will never spend another dime in the town of Angel Fire; Taos Ski Valley has ALL my future NM ski adventures.

  • Liked — The location was wonderful
  • Disliked — The service at the hotel and cleanliness of the room (floor was not vacuumed and not cleaned at all one day)
