“fabulous guesthouse in a fascinating area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

we were met at the train station by driver who had our name on his phone , the most fun ride in auto rickshaw as we were taken by his nephew (he needed to find other guests). This is how i imagined India- hurtling through little streets filled with people animals and vehicles passing stalls bursting with colour till we reached Shahi! All it promised to be - fascinating haveli with steep staircases to our room on the higher level. Our room was clean spacious and decor to mirror the ancient Indian style. Good bathroom , hot water. Anu was a delighful host even asked us to her son's birthday one evening. The restaurant although basic has good food and a fantastic view over the blue whitewashed buildings to the fort. Evenings with candles on the table and watching the moon. The nepalese staff were very friendly and obliging. Easy walk to the foot of the fort but we obviously took a back route up! Positioned somewhat out of the main centre but this was great, and still easy walking distance to markets , clock tower area. We loved out stay and hope to return sometime.

This place is ripping in atmospheric charm, comfortable and amazing, right in the thick of the chaos and wonderful-ness of the old city. Fantastic views of the fort and the city from the terrace. Clean and cozy, the rooms are full of old doors, stained glass, interesting decorative pieces.

This place oozes atmosphere and charm. Go for the higher rooms (3rd floor), which overlook the surrounding buildings of the town. They are all clean and spacious and tastefully decorated in a style that is appropriate for the building. The terrace is breathtaking (you can also have a meal prepared for you here), and is a little island of calm in an otherwise busy, bustling city that has so much to reveal. The family hosts are very friendly. Be prepared to climb the steep stairs up, as there is no lift in this elegantly restored guest house.

Room Tip: All the rooms are spacious, atmospheric and clean. The higher up, the better the views.

Loved staying here as it's right in the old city, so great for just walking around. The rooftop had a great view and food - enjoyed the Bindi Masala. The lady who ran the place was always helpful and the rooms were clean nicely decorrated. Only good things to say about this place.

For reasons hard to define, there is a great, positive vibe to Jodhpur. For reasons easier to define, the same is true for Shahi guest house.

The location of the guest house is just great. Many (well-recommended) hotels are pretty far from the actual city centre, but this guest house is just at the perfect location. It offers a great view on the Fort (which, also compared the Forts in Jaipur, is a must-visit), and it's even easy to actually walk there. The (central) clock-tower square is also on walking distance, but the neighbourhood is just that bit less crowded and more friendly and family-like.

We had a top-floor suite with a balcony, which turned out of great value when the families in the adjacent buildings gathered on their rooftops to welcome the first (and long awaited) monsoon rain of the season - a great experience.

Mr. Bantu and his wife are very enthusiastic and welcoming, and will provide you with the exact right information on how to explore the city, and absolutely no strings attached - everywhere in India you'll find people willing to help or advise you, but neutral advise is not quite the same :)

The rooftop terrace is beautiful. The menu of the restaurant doesn't offer a wide choice, but in taste it's great, and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

All together, this is a place where I definitely would like to have stayed longer. Thank you for a great memory!

Shahi Guest House was one of the best stays of our trip in Rajhastan.

First, the house is perfectly located in the center of Jodhpur. As the house is very high and fresh, you don't feel lost stuffed in the heart of the old city: on the contrary, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing, while you have all the advantages of being in the center.

When you arrive, Shahi sends you a ride from the clock tower as it is quite hard to find his house in the sinuous streets of Jodhpur! Then Shahi's family welcomes you and shows you your room. Ours was absolutely charming: lot of space, 5 windows and a balcony with a magnificent view (until you discover the one from the roof top is even more beautiful!) The room is furnished with indian furniture, everything is clean and from the glances I got of the other room, they all look nice and different from one another. The must of our room was the tinted windows, allowing you to watch the city roofs but preserving your intimacy.

Shahi and his family guides you in your visits and also arranges travel or activities if you need help. MAssages are also possible in the privacy of your own bedroom.

Shahi's family puts all possible efforts to make sure you are having a great time at their house and in Jodhpur. They were the best hosts we had in our different stays in Rajhastan.

Only not so good point is the food, which is very basic, nothing delicious, although the environment is perfect: you have an incredible view on Jodhpur and the fort. I could not help rate it with 5 stars despite this point! but a bit of improvement here would make the stay absolutely fabulous.

We spent 5 nights in this haveli and we were not disapointed! the room was clean very well presented and very spacious. We felt confortable and the owners were extremly helpful.
The roof top restaurant was excellent, the cooks were very accomodating and helpful.
I f we go back to Jodhpur we will definetly be staying again at the Shahi guest house!

Room Tip: Ask for top rooms with view o the Fort if available.
