We stayed one night in this hotel with my wife and were impressed by the place and the service.

The style in the building is Art Deco. Built in the 30's this impressive hotel, still the residence of the Maharadja for part of it is an incredible place to stay in. The rooms are huge (we were upgraded to a suite) with high ceilings. There are two swimming pools (outside and inside), the inside swimming pool is worth the look even if you dont plan to go in it. We had a very nice dinner at the restaurant Risala. For lunch we grabbed a quick bite at the Trophy Bar. Everything is Art Deco coming straight from the 20's and the 30's it is defintely a time capsule and you can easily understand why this was a golden age. In the morning you take your breakfast outdoors with the peakoks wandering in the park. Dont forget to visit the museum in the same building, there are some interesting items to see, especially the clock section.

The staff is very nice, very quick and responsive, rooms are very clean full amenities. Lunchm Diner and breakfast were all very pleasant experiences with no bad surprises!

Two must do's for Rajastan if you are thinking about going from palace to palace (and if you ahve the budget for that as all comes with a price!), this one and the Rambagh in Jaipur.

The imposing Umaid Bhawan Palace and its vast gardens emerge like an oasis atop Jodhpur. Partially converted into a luxury hotel, it is one of the last great palaces of India and one of the largest residences in the world. The interiors honour the tradition of luxury associated to Indian palaces and the decor follows the Art Deco style of the time. The rooms and royal suites also offer a fusion of cultures with all the comforts imaginable. For dinner the hotel’s restaurants are tempting suggestions, both serve international flavours, well accompanied by local specialities.

Umaid Bhawan Palace is a spectacular place to stay. It was my favourite hotel in our Rajasthan tour. I originally booked for 1 night, but under the advice of Suresh Sirwani from Rajasthan Travel Service decided to spend 2 nights. This was a great decision.

We were upgraded to a Historical suite, number 214. The view was not great, but this was the last thing on our minds as the suite was simply stunning! We felt thoroughly spoilt and would have never left the suite if it was not for the beautiful grounds. The Spa was delightful, breakfast and dinner at Sunset Pavillon was incredible with good food and a great wine selection. Dinner was particularly romantic, eating under the stars with soft live music in the background. Splendid! All the staff were attentive, but not intrusive and go out of their way to ensure that your every need is met.

We enjoyed drinks at the Trophy Bar and on the rooftop with an enchanting view of Rajasthan, Amber Fort just in the distance. We toured the Palace, champagne in hand, and learned all about the fascinating history of the Palace.

We melted away in our luxurious linen and specifically chosen pillows from the menu. Pure luxury and indulgence. So much so that I cannot wait to return, but next time it will certainly be for longer than 2 nights.

The best hotel experience that i have had until now. an old palace converted into a heritage hotel and located away from the hustle and bustle of jodhpur but as yet not too far away as to take away from the feel if being in the historical city. not only did i get to meet the brother of the Maharaja of Jodhpur (who owns the hotel) i was also subject to some of the best service that i have ever received in any hotel until now. firstly i would like to comment on the quietude of the place. secondly is the sense of royalty one feels walking the gardens and looking at the ramparts and rooms of the old palace. the room was large, clean and well equipped with all that one would want including television, modern and extremely clean bathrooms, comfortable beds and an atmosphere that made one feel that one was the guest of the maharajah himself.

the food was very good and was made as per the specifications and demands of the guest - something i found very nice. there was a choice of buffet or to order la carte. the buffet served some excellent breakfast and the candle light dinners created a very nice atmosphere. the staff were courteous and helpful and arranged for us to be taken to all the sightseeing locations in and around Jodhpur in their own vehicle with a knowledgable driver who also doubled as a guide. overall it was a very very refreshing and nice experience
