“Atmospheric Tranquil Heritage Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Very good location about 10 mins drive from the old city and Sardar Market and Clock Tower.
An old house built around 1920 for a maharaja. It is very 1920s/colonial in feel and layout and has been converted into a very pleasant hotel by the grandson and great grandson of the original owner.
We were in Room 107, upstairs, overlooking a courtyard, very quiet. Very large room with nice seating area and huge, high twin beds, set together to make a huge double bed - very comfortable. Very spacious slightly old fashioned bathroom, good shower over a large bath tub.
There is a beautiful swimming pool set in a sort of walled garden which gets all the sun and nice sun loungers. A lovely spot for a light lunch or a drink.
Surrounding the main house is a large verandah, shaded and cool and again great for drinks and snacks.
Main meals are taken in a very large, pretty Indian marquee and we had a la carte dinner on both nights and found the food good and service attentive and friendly. Prices for Indian wine and G&Ts very good.
The manager is a most charming and efficient man - a credit to the hotel and we also had the pleasure of talking severaltimes to an elderly gentleman who turned out to be one of the owners. (members of the family still live here).
For a tranquil and convenient central base in Jodhpur, this excellent value, would stay here again.

If you are staying in Jodhpur, this hotel is a must.

Location wise is fantastic, you are a 10 minute tuktuk ride from the city clock, however the minute you drive into the gates at Ratan Villas you feel a million miles away from the chaos outside.

Ratan is such a beautiful hotel with a fab clean pool and lovely little eating area for breakfast and dinner. The rooms are huge and extremely clean.

The staff are excellent. Such a great value hotel, and extremely reasonably priced.

We are 3 weeks into 5 week rail trip. Overall, this ticked all the boxes... and more. It was a shame to leave. The attention to design detail; food quality which encouraged us to explore the Rajasthan menu; the super clean swimming pool; friendliness from owner through all the staff. It all added to a textbook experience. Great memories.

The Ratan Vilas is a very nice and clean place to stay, a oasis in busy India. The rooms are nicely furnished in colonial style. A good place to relax is the beautiful and well maintained garden with a pool. Very friendly and helpful staff.

So many good things have been written about this hotel, it's hard to decide what else to add. It will always stand out as THE best hotel we've stayed at in all our travels, for value, hospitality and beauty. Everything about the place is perfect, from the genuine welcome, the gorgeous tasteful decor, the comfort of the rooms, the friendliness and professionalism of the owners and staff. Whilst it is a home converted to a hotel, there is no sense of being in a B&B - this is one beautifully-run boutique hotel. Nothing is too much trouble, with staff even providing delicious comfort food at 11.30 pm after being picked up from the train station, with such grace and genuine hospitality. We could not recommend this hotel more highly.

Room Tip: We stayed in 3 different rooms, 2 of them superior. All were excellent, with modern spacious bathroo...

It was raining when we arrived - one of the staff rushed out with an umbrella to help us in. This is characteristic of staff at Ratan Vilas. It's a lot posher than places we usually stay but we felt comfortable, as the staff were so friendly. The upstairs room was comfortable (though the bed was a little short!). The free toiletries are beautiful!! The food is totally amazing - try the dry potato subji and the jeera rice. It's great that they provide a free internet connection. My husband enjoyed a dip in the swimming pool. The breakfast which is included in the price, is great - a good variety of indian and non-Indian foods and fruit. it's not in the town centre - if you want to stay right in the Blue City, this isn't for you. If you want a quieter place a bit further out, tis perfect. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

An oasis in Jodhpur! We felt so pampered at the Ratan Villas... This wonderful property truly reflects the finer part of Indian life.

The rooms are very well decorated with wonderful furnishings of Rajistan and with high end linens. The bed was very comfortable and the hot water ever abundant as it is solar heated - not a common occurrence in Indian. The washroom is equipped with a shower/bathtub - again not the norm. Coffee and tea facilities are available in the room.

We stayed for five nights in total (one on route to Jaisalmer and the others upon return) and we dined at the restaurant each night. They offer buffet and a la carte options (we chose a la carte) that provide good variety. Western and Indian foods are available. The food was very very good and spiced to our request each night.

The service provided by all staff really sets this place apart - and is the perfect compliment to this outstanding property.

We were very happy to spend time here enjoying the sites of the city and lounging by the pool - a real oasis not to be missed!
