“value for moneY FOR RCI MEMBERS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2009

FIRST THE NEGATIVES . Dissapointing to note that the a la carte prices have been kept with the foreign tourist in mind only. even with a30% discount for RCI members the menu prices were very steep. Its a 4 * setup as someone correctly states with a 5* rates. another regretable item was that it did not have the normal fun dining buffet.

Otherwise it was great with good rooms having all the usual facilities for a hotel of this category. I liked the location as it was outside the hussle bustle of the city yet within reach. Great swimming pool ,my kids had alovely time. The staff are well behaved and courteous.

one thing to mention the restaurant across it " ON THE ROCKS " was nothing fancy as the hype created about it by other reviewers with the food in my opinion being very average.

We stayed for 2 nights having arrived without a booking, and after some negotiation agreed a price that was rather less than their exorbitant rate card, but still fairly hefty. Our large room was shaped like a local hut and was very well decorated and furnished (no foam mattresses here), and had pleasant patio area out the front. The decent bathroom was let down by the floor flooding every time you used the shower, and the hit and miss plumbing on the toilet.
The grounds were peaceful and well maintained, the gym was good by hotel standards, and the pool was great - although if the hotel had been busier they would have run out of sun lounger space fairly quickly.
Dinner here is excellent but pricey, and the included breakfast was just OK (you had to pay extra if you wanted a proper coffee). 100 meters down the road is On The Rocks, a popular garden restaurant and bar which served good food and a choice of beers for half the price, so we had dinner there a couple of times.
We took a city tour through the hotel and also a car transfer to Udaipur. Both were excellent with good drivers and well maintained cars. We had a knowledgeable and unobtrusive city guide (Sanjay) who wasn't always trying to direct you to various shops - a welcome relief in India. The big let down was the overbearing tour manager at the hotel who badgered us every time he spotted us to take various tours, and failed to inform us that the price for the tour and transfers we did agree to go didn't include sales tax. We had a bit of shock at the end to find the tour part of the bill was bigger than expected, but after a heated discussion I didn't pursue it to avoid any more unseemly aggression from the tour manager in the hotel lobby.

Staff very nice and helpful. Beautiful place to stay at. Has pool, gym & nice spacious rooms. Any complaints were attended to and taken care of to our satisfaction.
Food a bit expensive. But alternate restaurant right outside the hotel premises called 'On the rocks' is suggested. This has decent food with reasonable pricing.
Use local Autorickshaws for adventure rides to local sightseeings and shopping.
Places to see in Jodhpur: Mehrangarh fort - approx 5kms - Richshaw with 4 adults (overload) just drop should be Rs.50.
If including wait for 2 hrs and drop to market at clock tower for shopping then it should be around Rs. 100 max.
Eating alternative joints are 'Janata' and 'Poker' (Non AC one outside is suggested). At Janata, westerners are adviced to try grilled sandwiches at Rs. 45 each. Shakes are lousy here. At Poker open space try freshly cooked south indian dishes, like 'dosa' and 'idlis'without 'Chutney' and without 'Sambhar'. These outlets are in the clock tower market. Rickshaw from Ajit Bhawan should take Rs. 40 while going and Rs. 30 on return.

Very good hotel. This hotel also has luxury tent rooms which definitely are better than the other rooms. We had drinks at the bar each evening which was most pleasant.

  • Liked — the luxury tent rooms
  • Disliked — the other rooms were not as good.Gaps in the door and seethrough windows in the bathroom.

The ultimate experience of hospitality is seen in western Rajasthan and hotel Ajit Bhawan at Jodhpur is an awesome place to stay and experience hospitality, luxury and beauty. Almost all big hotels in Rajasthan are palace hotels, where one portion of the building is occupied by the royal family. This is true for Ajit Bhawan too.
We had booked the hotel through RCI (Resorts Condominium International) and hence paid a very reasonable amount of Rs 5500 for five days, against the tariff of Rs 5000 per day. Once you enter the hotel, you feel like a prince or a princess owing to the special treatment provided by the staff. We drove from Patiala (Punjab) in our private vehicle, making an overnight stop at Bikaner in the month of December 1996. The months from November to February are ideal to visit Rajasthan.
Though the façade of the hotel is good but the inside of the hotel is a lot more impressive. The room provided to us was a medium sized, comfortable enough for the two of us and a richly decorated one in a very peaceful corner of the hotel. The furniture was in antique style and there were huge prints of paintings on the walls. On the whole, the rooms were very tastefully done, matching the traditional grandeur of the hotel. The washroom was almost as big as the room with hot water available 24 hrs. The whole building is spread out in a big square shape with lush green lawn at the centre and at the front. After three days we requested the management to change our locaton and they were glad to provide us the luxury tent which was a permanent structure with concrete walls and a canvass roof, facing the huge lawn with patio chairs and tables. The washroom was attached and was luxurious again. The furniture here again was very comfortable.
The lawn had low clay wall separations made in a traditional style for various activities like puppet shows, performances by the local singers ,musicians and dancers. The evenings were full of activity, which were a good reason to return early to the hotel after sight-seeing. The bar and the restaurant in the garden were done in a traditional style where we used to sit and enjoy the old man playing ‘mor-chand’, an instrument played with mouth. Then we would move to a buffet corner, where mouth watering continental food was served . This tasted all the more wonderful while watching the local girls dancing to the traditional songs sung by their male counterparts. These people are very honorable and would never ask for a penny but are extremely glad to receive a reward from the guests.
The location of Ajit Bhawan is such the the major places of sight-seeing, like Mehrangarh fort, shopping centre and the great Umaid Bhawan are all in its vicinity. The hotel provided local trips like village safari and also booked sand dune camping at jaisalmer. There was a gift shop of Rajasthani handicrafts but that was a bit too expensive, so I preferred to shop from outside. When we had done a lot of sight-seeing , we decided to laze around by the pool on the last day of our stay here. This portion was again one of the very tastefully done areas. A fairly beautiful pool by the restaurant side made us devour the delicious chicken sandwiches after a dip in the pool, where water was warmed a little by the afternoon sun.
Ajit bhawan has a fleet of vintage cars like buick, rolls-royce, on which you can go around the city at a rate of Rs 3000 per hour. Expensive, eh?!
As I wrote in the beginning, we had booked the hotel through RCI, we had another option of hotel Chanwa Luni but that place was on the outskirts of Jodhpur and no where near Ajit bhawan in case of hospitality and facilities.
