“Beautiful Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2009

This is very nice hotel and decently priced. The draw back are its location which is quite far from the city. Secondly the buffet menu and taste of the food is also not up to the mark. Jodhpur being a famous city of Rajasthan, the buffet must contain some rajasthani dishes but it was a punjabi and chinese menu. However the hotel looks like a palace and for a family / friends holiday, its a great property.

We spent one night at this hotel - never again. We had previously stayed at the Taj Hari Palace so thought we'd try something a little different much to our regret. The Ummeid looks nice superficially but the hotel itself has no character. The rooms are nice but the restaurant looks more like a canteen - the food was OK - not great for what you pay. The bar is the worst - absolutely no atmosphere, bright lights, limited selection of drinks. The wine list consisted of 2 "red wines" and 1 "white wine". That was it. All this can be forgiven but it's the service that really lets it down. The manager in particular is just plain rude and categorically refused to see us when we complained about being overcharged. As it is the money was never an issue (it was only the cost of an evening dinner) but we complained as a point of principle. I have stayed in many hotels and the service at this hotel was easily the worst of all (due to the manager). So whilst the hotel may look lovely and boast excellent facilities, it's too far out of town, lacks any atmosphere and the manager is rude.

Hotel the Ummeid Jodhpur is one of the unique hotels ever seen in India. I would say that this is a tourist attraction in of itself. Service at the hotel is of a high standard. Morning walk at Pool side lawn is my most memorable time in Rajasthan. We really appreciated the hotel's services, hospitality and tipical rajasthani culture in hotel. I would recommend to have a exclusive dinner on poolside lawn or in courtyard

We stayed there as part of a small tour group (Adventures Abroad). It is a very pretty, rather new hotel built in a style reminiscent of the historic architecture, with a large, very nice but cold (in March) infinite pool on the side. On the edge of the city, but not overly inconvenient.

Nice modern hotel but outside the city. Spent 2 nights here as part of a tour package. Rooms are large & well appointed. Food was good (buffet style). We spent most of both days touring the area so although the hotel is located outside the city it was not a huge factor for us, but it could be for independent travellers. It was nice to take a dip in the swimming pool after a day's touring.

Stayed here for two nights. Service is good and the hotel itself is first class. Restaurant was good and the room was lovely, as are the grounds. As noted by other reviewers, the main drawback is the distance. Also, the car rental agency used by the hotel is spotty at best---had to fire one driver who smelled, kept trying to take us to his commissioned shops, and basically did not listen. Plus the vehicle itself was dirty. Then had a hassle when we got a new driver from the same agency.

It is a lovely looking hotel and rooms are spacious. The grounds and pool are very nice but it is a long way out in the middle of nowhere.. On the downside.... The hotel advertises a safe, there wasn't one in mine or some others rooms. The taps in the bathroom turned in the opposite way. When I asked for an iron and ironing board, this ended up being an ancient appliance which didn’t look too safe and the board about to collapse. I had a staff member unlock my door and barge in then just retreat when he saw me without an apology - this happened to someone else as well. They had got the wrong room. The convenience kiosk in the lobby opens when he feels like it and usually at night. While he sells everything from souvenirs, postcards, cigarettes, candy to books and more expensive items, he has yet to use his credit card facility. When he tried for me – and he had to take it to reception and ask if he could use their phone line, it didn’t work. He had had it 2 years and never used it. Another guest ordered a couple of beers through reception then came down later to order a couple more. He was told to ring room service and not go to reception, that using a phone was easy, just pick it up. He walked off giving the front desk a very rude sign. I asked if there was internet service, I was told they had a business centre and it was available 24 hrs a day. However when I went down that night I was told that the centre was under renovation and I could use the travel desk computer in the middle of the lobby – I declined. At Sir Pratap restaurant if you were early, you had about 7 waiters standing around you waiting to pounce then stood around and watched you eat. Once you had finished you were given a survey form to fill out. I cannot go into how good mine was at the end of my stay (not). At 7.00am a young boy in costume sat on the walkway in the courtyard outside and played his instrument. This was ok but the singing was worse than any rooster in agony. This was at 7.00am!!! The airconditioning worked in a fashion, and out of date and out of decent working order.. condition. On checking out my, it took 10 mins to finally pay my bill and then it was wrong.
