My wife and I loved staying at Shahi Palace. The staff were friendly and quick to make us feel at home. They were super efficient and helpful with all our needs including travel plans and our camel safari, which was a terrific adventure. They even helped us with some awesome Hindi ringtones! The views of the fort are unparalleled, and we lazed away the afternoons on the comfortable day-beds in the rooftop restaurant. Also, the food is delicious - try the Club Sandwich! A relaxed atmosphere prevails over this fantastic establishment. We will definitely be back!

The Shahi Palace is by far and away the best and smartest place to stay in Jaisalmer. They were the first property to move outside the fort, which takes on serious stress with all the millions of guesthouses scattered within its walls. The rooms are tastefully done and have a unique feeling to them. If possible and if willing to pay some more money, try to get a room in their other guest house which is only five doors down. This place is MUCH quieter, nicer and has rooms you will never forget! If you have time during your trip, be sure to book a camel safari. That is an experience you will NEVER forget!

  • Liked — The service, the charm, the hospitality of the brothers
  • Disliked — internet is a bit slow and limited but this is quite minimal
  • Tips/Secrets: — Try to get a room in the other guest house down the street. Much quieter and nicer!

I agree with the mixed reviews about this hotel. As with many places in India, they try and extract as much money from you as possible. You won't find many places that won't on your travels there. So, knowing that, we haggled down the camel trip, which was very special, as they take you to some secluded dunes. Overall, the good value for money, but don't hesitate to complain if you want to change your room or something is not right - they'll fix it straight away. As with many mid-range hotels in india the availability of hot water was variable. The rooftop terrace is probably the primary attraction of the hotel - a great place to relax with a view of the old town. We spent a day on the dunes on the hotel-organised camel safari and loved it - probably the higlight of the trip. The camel guys were entertaining and made every effort to make the trip as fun as possible.

Our family of 6 people stayed here for two nights and would have loved to stay for more. We arrived exhausted from the other side of India and were picked up with the minimum of fuss at the train station and brought here where we were warmly welcomed and told to treat the hotel as our home. The rooms are clean and full of character with beds that actually have some give in them. Wonderful after sleeping on wafer thin matresses previously. The rooftop restaurant makes good meals and the views are spectacular of the fort. We went out on a safari trip into the desert away from the normal tourist hordes at The Sam and the meal we had under the stars was beyond expectations in more ways than one. It was my husbands birthday and they provided a cake and our very own firework spectacular. Amazing! We met a lot of overseas visitors here from Australia, England, Europe and America and we all enjoyed swapping yarns of our Incredible Indai Experience around the fire on the rooftop. This isn't the cheapest hotel in Jaiselmer, but it's worth every cent. Thank you Dev and Papu for making our stay so enjoyable.

My new husband and I were JUSt at Shahi Palace and we cannot think of enough wonderful things to say. FIRST - those who complain about the price - if you are on tripadvisor, then you should contact the hotel directly by website. Everyone knows that travel books are outdated. Second, the hotel was completely honest about rates when we booked direct - no surprises. Third - their food and services are wonderful and we found to be VERY reasonably priced. But perhaps the best part of Shahi is that the brothers and the staff are so warm, interested in helping and making the time in Jaisalmer special. When we arrived our room was specially decorated with streamers and flower petals and drinks and candles for our holiday - and it was months before I had mentioned it was our honeymoon holiday. The rooms are lovely. Each staff member is so sincere and interested in helping. We highly recommend Shahi - and to me we were both treated like kings. Finally, it was also so wonderful to talk with all of the other guests who were so happy to have the same experience and making so many friends in such a friendly place.

  • Liked — the staff, the rooms, the food, the atmosphere
  • Disliked — jaisalmer out in desert!
  • Tips/Secrets: — prepare to stay longer than planned - you will LOVE it!!!!
