Owner description: Situated 120km North West of Jaisalmer city is Tanot in Thar Desert of Rajasthan. You will find sand dumes all along with small bushes. You can see herds of sheep & goats on the way. Beautiful landscape. Total desert. Nice to see Indira Gandhi Canal full of water after Ramgarh. You can see vegetation & farms near the canal. It is very near to Pakistan border. Last civilian point in India on border. Tanot Rai Mata Temple is an old temple with a history of India Pakistan war of 1965. Hundreds of shells fallen here did not harm the temple. Some bombs are in display at temple. Maintained & managed by Border Security Force of India. Keep food & water with you. Very few population.

“Visit to tanot temple and BP 609”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

I with my family ad friends visited this temple and could manage to go up to BP 609. The journey is magnificent and worth. Total distance to and fro is about 380 kilometers so one has to start early in the morning. Till Tanot mata temple you do not need the permission but for the border post, permission is must and it is best if obtained from CO BSF at Ramgarh which comes in the way. The journey to the BP is an experience worth going through a narrow curvy road which is totally deserted.

“Very picturesque”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

We went from the Prince Desert Camps and the entire route was very picturesque...the border is just a couple of kms away from the temple...
one quick tip...if you can arrange to get permission from someone in BSF before you visit...it will be worth visiting...we missed due to the turbulence going on along the J&K border

“Jai Mata Tanot ki( living miracle of Godess)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Its 120 km away from jaisalmer , there are pratiroop of mata Tanot i,e, Mata Ghantyali, , Mata Ghantyali is 3 km before Mata Tanot. in 1965pak troop attacked on Mata temple on 3 differant occations . First they thought that there is Indian troop on another side and attacked each other on its own pak troop and died in own attack. on second even when pak troop tried to distroy Mata.s murti then all platoon became blind and on third occasion they faught with each other on the point that whether to distry the Devi Mata,s statue or not.
In 1972 Many bombs were droped to distroy the Tanot Matas temple but none of it affected the temple , the bombs falled within the premises of temple were not exploded or some fall by away of temple . There is some unexplided bombs placed in Mata Tanot,s Temple . BSF and Army of India has full faith on Mata as she is a super natural security for Indian Military.

“Awesome...Respect Will Make You Kneel Down Before The Almighty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

One of those places where even someone like me (who doesn't believe in overt worship) would get respectfully numb...one of the most famous mandirs ...one that is the place of great respect for our Jawaans inthe border...the place still holds few Canon-balls that were hurled at this place but didn't blast.....more amazing to me was the fact that the mandir also has a nice worship-place for non-hindus....awesome...
One last thing...the messages inside the temple (simple yet profound) are just amazing...
