We were warned by our Travel Agent that foreigners are welcomed more than Indians in Rajasthan and that came tru in our last leg of Mewd/Marwad tour, at Rang Mahal. We also paid top dollars for the rooms and see no reason for the distinguishment. We felt the hotel staff has been trained to treat the firangs with better gloves. The front staff was also impolite & unattentive. We had booked for ''tent accomodation'' in the deserts thru Rang Mahal only and they made us wait in the lobby from 11am to 3 pm & we were told to arrange our own vehicle (which we fortunately had anyways).

Hope, someone in Rajasthan tourism reads these reviews. Hope the failing overseas economy make all these hotels depend on Indian tourists !! Thats the only way they will recognise Indian rupee power.

On a separate note, the tents are to be totally avoided in Jaisalmer. Absolutely no value for the charges you pay.

The Rang Mahal hotel looks superb at first sight. This yellow sandstone hotel fits in perfect with the city of Jaisalmer. The lobby, swimming pool and surroundings were so impressive, that we were quite disappointed by our room. The rooms are very standard and the bathroom was in desperate need of a renovation. The buffets at breakfast, lunch and dinner were above average and the staff was very helpfull. The hotel offers Ayurvedic massages, which are also good value for money.

visited in nov 2008, with family and friends... satisfied with service and rooms. nice pool, actually sparkling clean. with bar aside.. nice to hang around...and very peacefull too. around 75% visitors were non-indians and staff seemed to pocket their tips only....actually i found this problem of attending foriegners more for dollar/euros tips during my whole rajasthan tour..... so this is not particularly in rang mahal but in whole rajasthan.....
one caution... dont ever stay at tent in deserts... just ride around on camel safari and see the folk dance than pls pls pls come back to ur hotel for night stay... as i had most horrible vacation night at OASIS INDIA camp`s so called swiss tent night stay...

I found the staff pretty cold and snobbish. I wonder if the attitude was such towards the Indian guests that they had as i saw them extremely warm towards the Dollar payers.

The hotel is nice and the pool is fantastic. Resturant isnt good, but the rooms are fine. Its not such a great place, but better than others in Jaisalmer.

First of all, they refused to honor our 2-night reservation (confirmed and paid for). Tossed us out after one night, and were pretty rude about it, too. Breakfast was minimal, served in a depressing room. Dinner was outside, buffet-style, so the food was cold by the time we got it back to our table. Plus the area is very poorly lit. Service was indifferent (we did have one pleasant waiter). The room was uninspiring (no complimentary bottled water!!!), few amenities. Could not wait to get out of there. OK, so the pool looked nice. That's about it. Don't waste your money. Look elsewhere.
