“Nice building but better stay at another place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

We Spent 2 nights at the Desert Tulip hotel in a recent trip at Rajasthan.
The rooms are large and comfortable. However we did not have hot water. The management keeps the boiler on 35 deg. C in order to save and our room was far from the boiler so the water were cold. In addition in one out of the two rooms the air-conditioner did not cool.
The staff was very kind and moved us to a suite. There we found that we need to alert the management 15 minutes before taking a shower so that they will increase the boiler temperature to the correct level for taking a shower….
There is an open pool-but the water is green and contains mosquito eggs.
Breakfast was dull.
Wi-Fi worked only in the lobby.

Stayed two nights, 27th & 28th February 2013.. This newish hotel is situated along with two or three others (which all look as if they were developed around the same time) on a large area of open ground, on a main road, with lots of army bases around - rather a souless area but only about 15 mins drive from Jaisalmer Fort/old town. Externally the hotel is very nice looking, built of yellow stone and looking a bit like a fort. Large Reception area as you enter the hotel and then you pass through an absolutely huge pool area to get to the bedrooms. (64 rooms I think) we were in Room 220, on the first floor - up flight of stairs, (no lifts - strange in a newish hotel!) The room was large and pleasantly furnished with large double bed and window seat overlooking pool area but very little wardrobe/drawer space for clothes. Good bathroom layout and good shower, but no hot water for evening showers on the night we arrived, but seemed ok the next day. Safe in room.
The pool area is lovely, pool itself large and very clean and plenty of sun loungers but the area does appear slightly bleak.
The dining room was very disappointing, think they got this layout wrong as it is quite small, darkish and not very welcoming; this hotel seems to get a lot of coach parties so it can be very crowded and chaotic. There is plenty of space available so they should enlarge this and also have terrace dining.
We had a la carte dinner on two nights and found food good and dining room staff pleasant although service was a little slow. Drinks and wine at reasonable prices. Breakfast buffet, not much choice.
Reception Staff we found to be not very attentive and rather disorganised.
Wi fi available but tends to be patchy.
Tourists are being discouraged from actually staying within Jaisalmer Fort itself as apparently the foundations are being eroded by the huge increases in water consumption so staying outside is obviously the sensible thing to do and there are several other hotels to choose from. Whilst there was nothing actually wrong with this hotel, we did get the feeling that they were really geared up to cater for large parties and were not very interested in individuals/couples - shame as it could be good with a little more care and attention but I guess for a couple of nights it was ok but would try somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor room if you don't like stairs

We stayed for 3 days and it was a pleasant stay. It is a new property and room was very clean, spacious. Rooms are done considering Indian as well Western guests. The property itself is very good. Food was good and BEST PART WAS COMPLIMENTARY MORNING TEA SERVED IN ROOM (I never found in any hotel across the world). We got a good deal, hence we can say that it was reasonably priced. You can also book Trip to Sam Dunes from the hotel. If you want to explore desert more, pay some extra money (few more hundred rupees) to camel guy and he will take you through the Thar desert. You can quench your thirst while on camel as you will get many refreshment options.

Room Tip: Standard Room is good enough for a Couple

The resort boasts of spacious rooms, a nice and large swimming pool and lot of open space.
Lack of room service was a big dissappointment when we stayed there. Yes the hotel did not provide room service( no food, snacks, beverages in the room !)
Please clarify all your doubts with regards to tariffs at the time of check-in.(especially if you've not booked directly through the hotel) We found the front desk staff to be arrogant & unreceptive to our requests.
The restaurant staff dressed very shabbily. One of them had put on a torn uniform. The complementary breakfast had limited options.
There are plenty of better hotels available in Jaisalmer in the same price range. Thus would not recommend this one primarily because of the poor service of the unprofessional staff.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor have a better view !

The worst memories of my life. The hotel is very small, absolutely nothing to do: semi-dirty pool and a restaurant with a very poor selection. The first surprise is NO HOT WATER! To save money, as they explained, they turn off hot water during night and the whole afternoon. If you are lucky you can catch it in the morning and evening. Since it was December, it was insanely cold in the rooms. We had to argue a lot to get some sort of a heater. Another bummer: you can not order food to your room, so have to walk in the cold wind to the restaurant to have a bite. Food selection is poor, quality is dubious. The staff is running around in dirty clothes. Another observation: probably in order to save even more (hot water savings are not enough), they make their staff do multiple things, I have seen the very same people clean rooms, carry luggage, deal with food, who knows what else. For the price they are charging it is a horrible place. I would probably consider it in the below $90 category, but above $200? NO WAY! There are lots of amazing hotels in India that treat you like a king for this money. In Desert Tulip you have to fight for the very basics. Try your luck somewhere else: most definitely it won't be worse, hopefully it would be better.

This is one one of the best hotels we've stayed in. The room is spacious and is nicely decorated. We checked-in during winter season and it was very cold then, the room had one heater and it turns off whenever you'd stay out of the hotel so when you come back, the room turns out to be cold. We dined a la carte and it was very good. Their breakfast spread was also good.
Wifi didnt work but the staff were very accommodating and allowed us to use wifi at the lobby.
Location is not a problem at all as it is just very near the city, which is very crowded. Our over-all experience was very good and I will definitely recommend this hotel!
