I think I have become the dreaded Aman-junkie. We did the six night package between Aman-i-Khas and the sister hotel, Amanbagh, about 3 hours away. (transfers were included). Both hotels were gorgeous and the service was as steady and smooth as a ride in a Bentley. The hotels are small and friendly enough that you are made to feel like your staying at your (millionaire) friend's country place.
I think it is much better suited for couples or small groups of friends. People go there to "get away in style" rather than join the limbo contest by the tiki torch.

All the tents at Aman-i-Khas are identical so there is no worry about getting a "bad room". People with mobity issues may want to requst a tent closest to the public areas. But the service is so good they would probably already know that about you before you ever had to tell them.

Although neither Aman is located near one of India's must-see attractions, their settings are idealic and they both seem to have an excellent reationship with the communities around them. Indian cities can be jarring and exhausting. The people living around both Aman properties seem happy and not resentful; admirable considering the rate for one nght is possibly what they make in a year.
P.S. Food at Aman-i-Khas was 5 star, Amanbagh just a small notch below.

Lots of memorable moments here guaranteed by the superb Aman setting and staff. As other reviewers have commented, the tents are superlative, the service outstanding, the excellent showers most appreciated, the ambience relaxing, and the food quite wonderful much of it freshly grown in the grounds. Most of the staff are invisible but everyone will go out of their way to ensure you the best experience possible - huge credit to Jonathan for his tireless management; & make sure you see his pet snakes. There is an excellent yoga instructor on site, and the spa is a must (especially the traditional Indian treatments).

Our one discomfort was the rather intense heat the week that we were there (early April); more than 40 degrees and the air-con was understandably struggling, which may be an issue for you. Nights were delightfully cool though.

All in all, an experience not to be missed if you are going to this national park; and go on, spoil yourself, and combine this with Amanbagh, about 2 hrs drive away, for a full Rajasthani experience.

My husband and I spent 4 days here in Dec '04. Our thoughts:

Grounds - very private, secure, lovely. Right on the border of the park, so most of your view is of the hills. The tents are set in a "u" shape around a very lovely pond area.

Tents - huge and romantic, with a great day bed in the middle. Although it gets cold at night, the heaters were great, and the beds had heating blankets as well. We loved having a dressing room and enjoyed most of our breakfasts on the porch, which received wonderful sunlight throughtout the day. My only complaint is regarding the canvas of the tents, which appears to have been stained during storage (very minor).

Service - almost perfect. The sort of service that you really don't notice, but know that you never waited or wanted for anything - it was always being taken care of.

Food - We'd never stayed at an Aman resort before, and loved that we could ask for just about anything we wanted. All sorts of great sandwiches, soups, juices, teas. Good dinners at night as well.

Spa - Loved it. Small, but great service menu (and surprisingly affordable).

Activities - We'd never been on a safari before, but felt we learned so much about the politics surrounding the park and the lives of the tigers from our guides, although I don't think the guides were necessarily associated with Aman - sort of contracted through the park. However, when a baby leopard was found in a tree, the staff immediatly mobilized to take all guests to see the animal. We did have some great sightings - the tigers are magnificent.

This review is based on a 6-night stay at Aman-i-Khas. This was our 7th safari (5 in Africa, 1 Nepal, 1 India) and none of the ultra luxury camps we've previously stayed at quite match the quality of service of Aman-i-Khas. They had a "batman" (I guess the term the British in India used for these super-butlers who did everything), chaperone us for the train ride from Delhi. The staff is quite amazing. Our hats are off to the batmen who do the laundry (complimentary) and take care of the tents. As it gets quite dusty on safari, we go through several changes of clothing. Every time we toss something in the waste or laundry basket in the tent, when we step out for a meal or something, we come back to find that the trash bins have been emptied, the laundry picked up, and towels and wash cloths changed; this is 3-5 times a day! There is hot water all day (rarely found even in the best camps in Africa). There is even an air-conditioning and heating system for the tent. The tents are huge, and elegantly designed, in white and earth tone colors. The large day bed is great. I would say that the food is good, not great. Mostly we had 2 meals a day. Since we get back for breakfast around 10:30 and leave again at 3:15, squeezing in both breakfast and lunch in that time is too much. There was relaxing live instrumental music almost every evening around the campfire. It was a good thing we stayed 6 days, because tiger sightings this year have been surprisingly (and worrisomely) difficult, even in the peak season. But we managed to have 1 quality sighting. Some guests didn't get so lucky; others more so. So clients really keen on seeing tigers may want to stay more than 3 days (really 2 1/2 since the first day is eaten up by travel). The one thing which can be improved, though we are not sure how much Aman has control over, is the guide & driver set-up. Seems like the drivers and guides all work for the park and are on some sort of rotation system. Unlike in Africa where it's the same guide for the duration of the stay, the guides here may change per outing. After going through 4 guides, we requested one guide which we liked. Aman could have done a better job briefing us how this works and the driver/guide tipping guidelines. Many guests seem to find out about this from other guests, so we were not sure how reliable the information really was (we probably way overtipped). On our final night, they had a private sundowner picnic for us on a fabulous hillside, which was extra special.
