The Shanti Stupa on Dhauli hill, some 8 km South of Bhubaneshwar (on the way to Puri) was built in 1972 from Japanese money, and does not really qualify as a historical monument. Other than its size, there is nothing extraordinary about the quality of the Stupa by way of architecture, intricacy of carvings and beauty. There is a nearby temple of Lord Shiva called Bhaskareshwar but nothing extraordinary about it either. These are literally hundreds of such temples in and around Bhubaneshwar. It is said that there are Emperor Ashok's edicts engraved on rocks nearby but we did not find any. So, this is a tourist attraction one can easily drop from the itinerary and not miss much. Do not waste your precious time on it.
