“Simple but nice one”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Surprise, good to know the history behind this! You can avoid hiring the guide. The guide does not have much to tell about the history of this mini Taj mahal. We paid Rs.100 for 5 minutes of explanation from the guide. I suggest you can either read the history from internet or buy the small hand-guide (sold outside) for less price.

“Please do not compare with Taj Mahal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I saw many places, the monumnet ebing compared with Taj Mahal. My request is pls do not do it. It is unjustice to Taj Mahal. I had big expectations, once i visited, it was the opposite. The monument is not mainatianed well. There is a very big garden, but not flowers, not at all maintained. Even the monumnet is not maintained.

“Its Not 2nd Taj-- Its Bibi Ka Maqbara”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

If Taj is 100 then Bibi-ka-maqbara is 001. It was not a try to imitate rather it was a jealousy towards Taj. Total carpet area is really large. At the entrance it feels that one is entering the area of Taj. But as you proceed frustration will grasp you. A must see in Aurangabad but not the best of Aurangabad.

“A poor man's Taj mahal.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

The worth visiting place while visiting Aurangabad. The place is clam n ordinarily maintained in the memory of Aurangzeb.U can see the simplicity of the monument but still attracts a lot of people as this seems to be the main attraction in Aurangabad.

“The Baby Taj”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

It is hard not to compare the two, but if you visit Bibi Ka Maqbara expecting the Taj Mahal you will disappointed. Bibi Ka Maqbara was buit in 1678. It was built in memory of the the wife of Aurangzeb, Rabia-ud-Durrani by one of their sons, Prince Azam Shah. Aurangzeb was the last of the six great Mogul emperors, founder of Aurangabad, and son of the creator of the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan.

Bibi Ka Maqbara stands in the middle of a large garden. It was supposed to be all marble but money ran out, so only the bottom two feet are built with marble. The rest is stone with a facade of plaster. Unfortunately the plaster has not held up well. Its minarets are disproportionally large and the whole monument lacks symmetry. There is little of the fine work or details of the Taj Mahal.

Despite its flaws it is still considered Aurangabad's most famous monument and is worth a visit. You can visit in less than an hour, unless you spend time in the garden.

Open daily sunrise - 10:00 p.m.

Admission: Indian National INR 10, Foreign National INR 200

Directions: About 8 km from town, 550 yards north of the old town, beyond Mecca Gate.
