“Service and food were outstanding and provided excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2010

We stayed at the Taj Residency for 4 nights for the sole purpose of seeing the caves at Ajanta and Ellora. It became the food highlight of our 4 weeks away as the service, value , but mostly quality of the food were outstanding. I put this into perspective by saying that our next hotel for 3 nights was the Lake Palace in Udaipur, quite legitimately one of the great hotels of the world. At the Taj Residency, Aurangabad we ate outside in the lovely gardens after the heat of the day had dimmed for each of our 4 nights. The experience was quite magical combined as it was with friendly and knowledgeable waiter service and we often left the choice of dishes to our waiters. In the end it has been one of the best value hotels we have experienced in 40 years of travelling. Its only downside was that it is someway out of town so it is not a walk into the centre, but Aurangabad is not a tourist destination itself but as a base from which to go the the extraordinary caves...unreservedly recommended!

The hotel looks like a palace from outside & considering that it’s a Taj, its no less from the inside. Its simply beautiful with all the facades, beautiful artifacts, makes you feel you in for a royal treatment. Rooms were very spacious & comfortable. Food was fine but nothing to rave about. Staff was courteous but needs a bit more professionalism for the Taj brand to hold its head high. Excursions to the caves were available at reasonable rates, make sure you take a good guide along to enrich your experience. Overall a good comfortable stay.

The Taj Aurangabad suddenly appeared on the horizon as the taxi took a sharp turn. It's gleaming white dome resplendent in the evening sun, almost beckoning. The ramp took a wide sweep and the car reached the main porch with no huffs and puffs....
The palace styling of the hotel was not limited to its exteriors. The decor of the lobby and the intricately painted main inner - dome all added to the regal splendour.
The rooms it seems have been recently upgraded, and renovated, as the baths were glistening new, and the bed linen crisp and snowy white.
From almost all the rooms one gets a great view of the large green lawn that undulates and meets the pretty pool.
The amazingly manicured "fichus" trees, stand almost sentry like from the Garden Cafe, protective yet beautiful in their stature.
The hotel is overall a friendly warm place ... and because it has so many "young, inquisitive, keen to learn " minds, from the Hotel management College right next door, it makes interactions so much easier.
The food is top grade, and the special "Christmas Dinner" on the lawns on a nippy December night is one I will not forget for a long time.
The temperature has suddenly dipped, and the open air BBQ buffet was just the right place to sip a nice whisky and enjoy a lavish spread. The " tandoori jhingas ( large sized prawns) " were scrumptious, complimented with some delectable Christmas fare, duck, turkey and an amazing array of cuts.
This is one hotel anyone and everyone who gets to Aurangabad for business or leisure should stay at..... and in most cases won’t be disappointed.

Although a 'Residency' in the Taj heirarchy, i.e. at the bottom of the ranking and intended for business, this is not really a business hotel, being set up more appropriately for the tourist trade. Out of season we tourists were thin on the ground... I was told that it will soon be upgraded to a luxury hotel with appropriate improvements to some of the rooms The building is architecturally interesting, and its age is shown in the decent-sized rooms, all of which seem to have verandahs and face the garden. They have been updated, so beds are comfortable, bathrooms well-equipped and the a/c is effective. There are however no robes or slippers, and no coffee/tea-making equipment (a Taj trademark - they prefer you to order it from room service and pay handsomely). WiFi is available but pricey, and connectivity can be variable. A/c cars for airport pick-up, excursions to the caves etc. are available and reasonably priced.

There ought to be some indication on arrival that many of the serving staff are first-year trainees from the Institute of Hotel Management next door - once this is understood, the enthusiastic, attentive but slightly amateurish service becomes endearing rather than an irritation, and there are plenty of very competent senior managers available to resolve any problems. And, another up-market Taj trademark, they all know your name...

Average rooms, though large, decor nothing much to talk about. Toiletries never replenished in the room till reminded several times.

Service was really really poor - the staff is well meaning, but so raw (mostly trainees) that they consistently goof up wherever possible. Shows up most in the way the restaurant is run.

Amazing property! The room we stayed in was quite spacious and well done up. The bathroom was also very well maintained and neat and clean. The view from the balcony of our room on the first floor was also great and it was from here that we could see the pool though time did not permit us to take a dip.
The food was great. The breakfast spread was great too. And the staff extremely courteous.

I have stayed there several times on business trip. On one occasion the front desk misplaced my luggage and took more than 12 hours to locate the same. I didnt expect a big hotel like Taj to display this kind of unresponsive services.
Otherwise the hotel looks very grand. The food is decent, nothing out of the world for the price one pays for the hotel. The rooms are quite large sized and very spacious. Those seeking luxury may like the hotels property but one can be disappointed by the services.
